I Hate Lasers ****UPDATE*****

Re: I Hate Lasers

The cops really need to remember there motto "To Protect, and to serve" not "To Bullshit and piss off". Ive had a cop try and tell me I stopped at a stop sign 2 seconds and not a full 3 seconds and try to give me a ticket for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Are you fu***** serious do you have nothing else to do? :gun:

Re: I Hate Lasers

You know what I seen them do? You know how your suppose to come to a complete stop before making a right turn at a Red light....you sort of slow down and slide through, so will pull you over for that and ticket you. They put up Traffic Cams in St Pete now, and the Cops said on TV last week that the cameras will issue you a ticket automatically IF you don't come to a complete stop first, before making a Right on a Red. I think they said it's a $185.00 ticket, but NO points; they did say IF you ignore the ticket, after 30 days they will issue a bench warrant against you.

They are set to make all the cash they can from us, I've heard it's even worst in the Orlando area, they nail all the tourist that way all the time with those Red Light Cams; they are just $$$ hungry.

Re: I Hate Lasers

then reasonable doubt applies and it's your word against his.

It's the word of a cop, probably with a few years on the force, vs the word of a 17 year old with a record of past traffic violations.

Guess which way the judge will rule.:undecided:

They've been getting people with red light cams in NYC for years now. The ticket last time was $50... most people just pay it.

The whole system is setup not for safety but to suck money out of people. Never mind that we already pay taxes:mad:

Wow I gotta watch out from now on. I havent seen any signs before a camera. In Cedar Rapids, Iowa they put a sign before every camera, thats almost impossible to miss. Ive gotten tickets from the mobile speed camera and red light cameras all the time. But in CR there's no penalty's they just make you pay $100-$175. I was checking out Tampa for the first time again and almost got caught in another Laser speed trap.

I know, its a greedy system. :tsk:

Re: I Hate Lasers

A school zone nullifies the defensive driving (traffic school) option. The only thing you can try is to contact the judge BEFORE the court date. Tell him that you were clocked BEFORE the zone but do NOT wish to press the issue. Tell him you will plead "NO CONTEST" to the charges for the exchange of a sentence of Defferred Adjuication. This is the only option I see in this particullar situation.
However, be warned there will be approx $250 in paperwork fees, $100 in state fees, and a probationary period of 6 months. In which you cannot get another ticket or you will get the old ticket on top of the new one.
You say "But thats $350, thats not much better than $400!" and I say its $350 now and none later. The other option is $400 now and $250 each year for insurance increase for the next 4 years!
Good luck buddy.

Thanks for the advice. But the cop specifically told me that I can take a defensive driving class for no points but still have to pay the amount.

Re: I Hate Lasers

I saw a special on TV about Austraillan tickets and they were trying to pass a new law to close a loophole. I dont know if they passed it or not but here is the scam that was supposed to work according to multiple people interviewed...

They got a ticket and lets say it was $150 (arbitrary number). They paid by mail and pleaded guilty. However, they made the payment for $175 instead of the $150. The court would not issue a warrent because the plea was in and the fine was marked "Paid." However, heres the crazy part. The court would send a check back for the extra $25 and say "Hey you paid too much, here is the extra." The people would then NOT cash the check and tear it up, thus leaving the case open in the court. Case not closed, case not on drivers record. Years later the case would be thrown out. You otta ask around or search for it if you live in Aussie and let me know. I always wanted to ask someone about that in Australlia. I tried it here, but money order was returned UNcashed and they said it was for the wrong amount and I had 5 business days to correct it or a warrent would be issued (in USA).

Thats a really interesting idea, Ive never heard about that. Too bad it would never work here. I cant believe the Australian government missed that loophole until now though.

What do you think parents are for, my kids borrow money all the time

SLOW DOWN and you won't be stewing in this kettle of fish

is there any reason you needed to be going that fast

100% agree with everything you said, except that last part.

I really don't think 30mph is too fast. Unless of course it's inside a parking lot... than that's a different story. Most 25mph roads I feel perfectly comfortable doing 40, so long as the visibility is good, and the road isn't wet or icy.

Many of the safety laws we have are absolutely insane. I mean for example when's the last time you heard anyone dying of a pot overdose (if it were possible, believe me some of my friends would have done it:p)?

Yeah but you live in NY! Here in CO, you tell your doc you cant sleep. Pay the $50 for the "green card" and head to Mary-J Mart... Just FYI I don't because I think in the very near future you will "Fail" the federal background check for a gun purchase. I just cant have that, but many people do it..

If it was legal, I would probably be lighting up quite a bit:p

Re: I Hate Lasers

For what I know it is more strict as long as kids have school. Like for a specific period each day.

Like Infinitus said, it was a road meant for around 35-45 mph. No kids and not busy. Of course I would be doing 30 mph. It would be a different story if it was busy, there was kids, etc...
