Hey guys, I found an American DJ Pocket Scan at my apt dumpster --> http://store.phantomdynamics.com/pocketscan.html. It works perfectly as far as I can tell except for the motor with the mirror isn't secured to the internal motor, it still works fine I just can't hang it or anything. I don't have any DMX stuff to hook it up to but if I play music it starts playing away.

I was thinking of opening it up and putting a more powerful laser but decided that would just be dangerous and stupid.

I don't know anything about these things, what would you guys do with this?

No don't do that:yabbmad:--send it to me ---for proper disposal--

note to self--check the dumpsters more often.......:p

WOW, Nice find. I would fix it as already suggested and then get a smoke machine.

Those are fun devices. If your laser show software does DMX control you can take control over the movement and patterns in addition to your normal scanner. As it is, it is probably low powered and crowd safe.

One of my friends had a birthday party last night so I brought it over. It was pretty cool! My friend has a smoke machine so we're going to combine them next weekend.

So I don't see any lasers in this item, why is this in the LASER SHOWS section. Not hating on the thread, just askin ;)

Totally missed that, what can it do? Just a strait beam? I cant imagine those steppers are good enough for any kind of scanning with that HUGE mirror on them.

Yeah it's just a straight beam, nothing amazing about the laser.

Yep it's broken you better send it to me  I know what to do with it :thanks:

Nice find!

The mirror assembly is held onto the shaft by a little flat metal piece. That piece is slightly too large on one side and is rotated so that the too-large end presses against the mirror assembly mount and pinches the shaft. Once tightened that way, friction is the only thing holding it together. Sounds like you got it together, but if you wanted to attach it right I'm sure you could order one through ADJ's parts department.

I own 11 Pocketscans, and use 8 in my setup. The other 3 are for parts / spare since they break a lot. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help since I've done quite a bit of work on them.

It weighs 10lbs!! I think it will pull down your pants if you tried to pocket it. LOL

Nice find.
