I disagree with how the forum Reputation system works.

I think it's abused sometimes.
diachi -Repped me for giving a +Rep to someone he doesn't like. :wtf:
But, oh well.

Diachi went a little crazy for a time. :tinfoil:

I think he had to take one too many exams in too short of a time ;)

He's better again now

Peace,
dave

Abuse of the rep system can't be controlled, so taking it as seriously as I see lots of people do, is a very silly waste of time. I give rep selfishly, and take it away justly. I know I do this, and I know that others do as well.

Don't even worry about rep CMAK, this is the internet, so don't treat it like a caste system. We ARE all equals here. Some of us just know each other better than others. :)

What are you referring to here?!? How do you get those numbers for Shawnk1994's rep?

Ya needs ta read ALL the posts... not just mine...:eg:
On post #33 he states the number of Rep Points (-21) he
had as of that #33 Post time...
And on Post #46 I state the number of Rep Points (+123) he
had as of that #46 Post time..

[EDIT]
I just noticed that Eidetic (BobH) got banned while I was gone...
Do we need to open a poll again...

Let the system work :shhh:

Peace,
dave

Ya ive noticed how rep points and power are completly different but im happy with what ive got.

Did you also notice that the comment was preceded by a gray square? That means that no points were deducted from your reputation.
As a "new member" with no "rep power" yet, his neg rep cost you nothing.
That's why the "rep power" restrictions for posting exist

All you have is that an immature person called you a name. :na:
Hardly seems worth experiencing any angst over :bday:

Peace,
dave

Thank you for the explanation on the gray square, I wasn't quite sure on how that affected things

I'm not gonna wade through three pages of posts, but IMO I think that people with more rep should have more rep power. I've been -repped by a ton of idiots who only stayed on the forum for a week or so. Some left, some were banned. I was only -repped for -repping them 99% of the time. Luckily, since they had no power I got gray squared. And I think that if you prove yourself by getting a good rep that means you can be trusted with more rep power. So I think the system is fine, it never bothered me. The only real -rep I have is because I overreacted and -repped another "real" member when I shouldn't have, and I think that's fair.

Oh lol and of course this guy -reps me because I -repped him because he made an atrociously stupid post in a dead thread. That's the kind of abuse that ruins the rep system. The only reason you have any positive reputation at all was because people in this thread were nice enough to give you a chance... not because you've ever contributed anything or helped anyone.

Now thats not true as far as helping i have helped and i've already bought a laser off someone soon to be another long with kits from jayrob soon. As for the neg rep i neg repped you for being irresponsible. You neg rep noobs who arn't familiar with the forum and need a chance to learn before you start start judging them. This is my last post in this argument with you let the 15 year old be more mature goodbye to you ossumguywill happy searching the forums, and luck with any builds you will later undertake.

That makes no sense at all... it would really help you if you had
read all the posts... IMO

The members that more Rep Points DO have more Rep Powers...
Their Rep Powers are in direct relation to their Rep Points.

You prove yourself by contributing to the Forum and Helping the
community... and your Rep Points are a reflection of that...
REP POWERS are not given they are CALCULATED...

You would be wise and far ahead if you would read this Thread....

I'm younger than you, don't be an ass and use your age as an excuse. You already tried that when people got on you for your third grade level grammar. I only -rep people who are rude or take up bandwidth with trash, not noobs.

Lol sorry I should have been more clear, I AGREE with the current system. I know all that stuff :D I'm saying those things make sense to me.

I wish the rep system would just go away lol. Not worth all the trouble it causes, just give all the Pro sellers a subtitle under their name so we know who to trust and leave it at that. People take the rep WAY to seriously lol. I'm tired of getting PMs from people upset about neg reps asking me to fix it, it's just a bunch of silly numbers and green boxes on a laser forum.
That's actually a very idea-inspiring thought...

IDEA: No more "Negative reputation", and only positive reputation. If someone has a complaint due something very serious, such as getting scammed in a sale or something of that level, there can be a separate place for reporting those. Kind of like a "seller rating" or something people can look at if they need to know whether or not someone is trustworthy to deal with. That way, there would be no complaints regarding -Rep's, no more Rep wars, etc. If someone posts another unsafe picture as their avatar, the bad reputation can just stick with them by everybody having a negative opinion on them.

Once again, just an idea. Let me know what you guys think :p
Personally I like the rep system because it's sort of like an ebay feedback system for buying and selling here. The main problem comes from people who give out -rep just because you said something in a thread that offended them or that they don't agree with. -Rep should only be given when a member does something that's blatantly unacceptable. Giving negative rep just because someone has a different opinion on Animal cruelty or Barack Obama isn't how the system is meant to work.

IMO Negative rep should be given out for scamming, spamming, clear trolling and sometimes posting really bad safety advice.
Excellent post, your ideas are dead-on and I completely agree with them. I especially like the last sentence of the first paragraph, very well stated. :gj:
well, sometimes it is ok to give neg rep for non seller related stuff.,

Captain dan got neg repped for making a photoshopped pic of pointing a laser at his face.... although in his case i disagree with the neg rep be cause he acted promptly and removed the pic.

michael.
Try this on for size: getting -Rep'd multiple times for +Rep'ing Capn Dan after he took the picture down, both times by Vets. It's alright though, because once again it's all just little green squares on an internet forum :p

You're not the only one

Good to know this thread didn't turn into a giant flame war with -1's being tossed around like candy :yh:
