I'm so far in debt that if it took a dime to fly to the MOON, I wouldn't have enough money to get me to the end of the block I live on....... WHAT, SELL MY LASERS, when they pry my cold dead fingers from around them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL...........rob

Yeah, I know I don't really need something really expensive, but well, I prefer to buy excelent quality products when it comes to things I'm gona use a lot for a lot of time. Just because you really feel the difference and because they last longer.

This apply to my mobile phone, my Ipod, my computer, my car (wil buy a good one once I get the money) and the TV.

And belive me, I'm gonna work hardcore and for many hours on the laptop, so I'm better buying a 1500$ one :P

@Hallucynogenyc:

Then you need a good computer, not an expensive one.
People have been studying computer engineering for dozens of years, they've managed to get by on computers a millionth the power of current ones, your studies will most likely not require a powerful computer. As for video encoding, I always queue up batches to be encoded overnight, so it really doesn't matter how fast my computer really is, the videos get encoded one way or the other. For playing games, you may want to invest a couple hundred bucks into a video card, but other than that, everything else is pretty irrelevant. As for having it last a long time, you probably don't want to buy a really powerful one then, cutting edge hardware is always flaky and unstable. If you want it to last a long time get a lousy slow one that's built well using old, but proven hardware.

Macs can run XP, by the way.

I agree and disagree with you. When you get into high end gaming, you need a good processor to help the game along.

Also, I agree with you on the video edditing. It will get done, one way or another, but I will tell you this. When I made the jump from a 3ghz pentium 4 to a 2.4ghz core 2 quad, it cut my edditing times dramaticly.

Pentium 4 3ghz 1.5 hour movie.....took easily 1-4 hours
Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz 1.5 hour movie....Takes only 10 to 30 min Max

Big difference..

FYI: The software that I used does take full advantage of all 4 cores. Unfortunately, I reformated my system and for the life of me, I can't remember what it was that I had! :(

I know, but a quad core in a laptop is a suicide for the battery. I think I'm gonna get a dell studio with goodcomponents, which means 4Gb ram, dual core 2.5ghz, etc, which will cost me around 1600$

I'm using Super for converting and with the computer I'm using now (Q9300 2.53ghz with 8 gb ram) It's a matter of seconds :D

easily >$160,000.... stupid hospital bills... I still wants an RPL-425 so bad though ;_;

Shit, I will have to re-post, I am now in debt because of jayrobs glass lens and some earth magnets to extend my cr2's in my charger.

Dude, stay away from Dell. RIP OFF and also, not that high of quality. :) Some people will give me crap for this comment, but it is true.
