Going completely OT here... I wonder the same thing with regard to sunlight. I know that a lack of light affects my disposition, so it's definitely a personal conundrum as to why I still haven't moved to a more equatorial location that's more sunny throughout the year.
 





I have my tower with an i7-5960X overclocked to 3.8Ghz, 16GB of DDR4-2300, a GeForce 780 Ti, a 1TB SSD, and 3 1TB HDD's. I use this as my primary PC for gaming and 3D design/animation/rendering.

I've got an old Dell machine that had a 3.4Ghz Pentium 4, 1GB of DDR2, and 80GB HDD. I upgraded it to a 3.4Ghz Pentium D dual core, 4GB of DDR2, and a 1 TB HDD. I use this computer for a variety of tasks, usually as a MineCraft server, a platform to run some usb ASIC bitcoin miners, and to run a capture card.

I've got an iBook G4 running a 1.33Ghz G4 CPU, 1.5GB of memory, and a 40GB HDD. I use it as a portable DVD player because thats about all it can handle.

I've got an iBook G3 thats the original clamshell model. It has a 300Mhz G3 CPU, 512MB of memory, and I put a 120GB HDD in it when the original failed. Sadly the CD-ROM drive is dead, and because it cannot boot off of USB I have no way of installing an OS on it.

I've got a RadioShack TRS-80 Color Computer with a whopping 16K of memory. I used to play around with programming on it, but lacking a cassette drive to save my progress I gave up on this fairly quickly.

And I've got a Raspberry Pi 2. 4 ARM cores running at 1Ghz, 1GB of ram, and a 16GB MicroSD card. Currently not in use, but occasionally I think of something fun to do with it.

My laptop is ok.....I guess :poke:

It's got about 1TB of storage space, no disk drive(which sucks because I wanted to play some Flight Simulator :mad:) but isn't a big deal I don't play too much PC gaming, mostly Xbox One. Battery life is pretty bad, I think around 4-5 hours :o

It's an HP Envy.

I haven't had anything in daily use with an optical drive for well over 5 years, let alone a floppy disk drive. My first PC had them though, the properly floppy 5.25 inch kind, and two drives at that. I think they were 360 kB each.

Due to space limitations i have not kept around my old machines, though i still have a 225 MHz amd desktop stored somewhere around here that probably still works just fine if i ever dig it out :D
 
Ordered an alienware alpha, i5, to use a media pc... so if we're counting tablets, and phones, as well as towers and laptops, I'm up to 12 :-/
 
Form factor. I didn't even consider buying one originally, but their prices have come down quite a bit. I could still beat the price easily, though it's less of a gap with OS being legit, but there is no way I'd be able to make it small enough to sit under my tv, and behind the soundbar.

I'm still completely undecided on what to do for a pc to run my bedroom tv, whether to build or buy another one, or run a long hdmi, and use a splitter, using my primary pc. Definitely the cheaper route to go there, but it would be somewhat of a hassle.

Edit: The alpha is small enough that I'm toying with the idea of bringing it with me on vacation :p

Edit 2: How many PC's is too many, to bring on vacation? For the moment I'm thinking laptop, two tablets, two phones (one backup).

Why would you need more than one or two? Why would you go to another country just to look at cat pictures when you could do that at home?
 
Laptop is for actual work... Inevitably I have to do a bit even when away, it's just easier than trying to have someone else do it, or dealing with the consequences after getting back. Two phones... That's easy, one is a backup, and both act as my mp3 and audio book players. Having a spare smartphone on hand can be very useful.

Two tablets.... That's a tougher one... Most of the time I'm perfectly fine using an 8" tablet. The second tablet is used for almost nothing else except Netflix and prime video.... I can easily forego taking it.

Besides, it's super relaxing watching funny pictures slide by with the ocean as a backdrop, and a couple of mojitos.

Edit: I could probably get by with one tablet and one phone, but I like redundancy. From a specs perspective, a surface pro, or PowerBook would work well, but they are far less wieldly.

my family we have 1. my pc which is running a amd k 5800 3.7 gigabyte chipset plus 16 gigs of ram a four gig video card and lots of extras, 2. my wifes pc, 3. wife's laptop, 4. 9 year old laptop, 5. 8 year old laptop, 6. my laptop, 7. three tablets, 8. Old tower pc x 4 9. brother n laws two pcs, six smart phones, another tower pc was added, psp, these were given to me. I have a friend sending me six more laptops to fix and sell, as well as two more micro atx pcs, and two i pads

So I'm now up to 3 phones, 5 tablets, 5 pcs, and two laptops.

Newest computing adventure, is going to be to see whether I can use the Samsung Tab S2, as a laptop replacement for work, using a bluetooth keyboard, and mouse.

Have grown quite tired of Fire OS from amazon. It drives me crazy how a company that put so much effort into hardware screws up so much with their software, and more so their own apps, on their own devices, on their own OS. Never going to buy another amazon tablet unless it's at an absolute rock bottom price.
 
Lets see...

Inherited a bunch of old Dell D series laptops and accessories, varying models from that series - even a 13" that I didn't know they made - gave one away to a friend, some are dead, my own original one died a month or two ago - should have enough parts to get 3-4 working. Massive docking station for the Dells was included, has a PCI (PCIe? Can't remember) slot or two and it's own ATX PSU inside plus extra features you normally don't get - only one I've seen like it. The 13" uses a HDD in a form factor I haven't seen before - smaller than 2.5", connected with one of those flat Kapton looking ribbon cables.

Totals:

~9 (Maybe more...) Laptops - Some dead.
4 Desktops - 2 in the rack, one at my desk and a spare.
6 Rackmount servers - If I'm counting the old IBM P4 box which is probably older than some members here...
3 cell phones, Galaxy S5, my old S4 and an iPhone 3G - only use the S5 of course.
Tablet (HP Slate 2) in the truck for use with the HF radio.

More power supplies than I know what to do with - couple of nice small ATX supplies scavenged from dead Dell LTO4 tape libraries - those would be nice to use for some projects. Several cheap ATX supplies, several beefy server PSUs that should still work if hooked up to the control circuitry which I also scavenged. Dumped 3 tower servers last summer, 2x Dell 1800s and an old Compaq Gen III box plus a couple of other old machines. Lots of heatsinks too - scavenged lots of parts!

Feel like I'm forgetting something...

The Dell D series laptops that I inherited came with a box full of 2U server fans as well, and some other "junk". If anyone needs some high power (60mm?) fans let me know ... I need to go to the dump again soon and get rid of some of the old junk.

All of mine are in decent working order, although the oldest tower from ~2007 I think, gives me a warning that a fan has died on startup. Don't think I'll bother to fix it. It's just too damn slow for me now. Or maybe I will. It just sits at the office, hasn't been on in months ever since I transferred the credential certificates I needed off of it onto my new workstation.

Also have a Blackberry Bold 9700, which does still work. The other smartphones are HTC One M7, Galaxy S5, and Note 5. The note I'm currently using. Also have a blackberry bold, but I don't consider it to be a "computer" although I do miss that keyboard.

Tablets are;
Amazon Fire 7 - Great for the price.
Amazon Fire HD10 - Good for streaming/movies, and that is it. Shit for anything else.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite - Painfully slow, horrible screen. If I hadn't gotten it free, I would return it.
Nvidia Shield K1 - Best gaming tablet currently out there, with the possible exception of the Pixel C, which is 2-3 times the price.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, newest version. - Amazing tablet for productivity, email, browsing, etc,. Firefox with Adblock plugin feels equally as responsive as a PC.

2012 and 2014 laptops, 14" and 15" 2nd, and 4th (I think) gen I5's 4 and 8gb ram respectively, 120 and 240gb SSD's. Older one is an acer, newer one hp.

Two of my home PCs are alienware alpha's, I5, with 8 and 12gb ram, 500gb, and 1tb SSD's. They run my TV's.

At work, Dell inspirion with I5 4460, 8gb ram, 120gb ssd, 1tb hd, and gt 705, which is just enough to run dual monitors.

Main home PC, Dell XPS 8900, I7-4790, 12gb ram, 500gb samsung evo SSD, 1x1TB HDs, and a very very long in the tooth evga gtx 460.

Eagerly waiting for the 1070 and 1080 cards to become available.

Some nice rigs you've got going there! Jealous of that Note 5 - I had a spare Note 3 here at the office but the S5 was the better performer - would have liked the bigger screen though.

Nice selection of tablets - all that's missing is a Surface Pro 4... :p

If we're including work laptops - Got a beastly big 17" Toshiba, i7, upgraded it to 8GB RAM yesterday, 256GB SSD AND a 500GB spinning rust disk. Actually wouldn't have been my first choice but being the IT guy I need to give everyone else the nice stuff first.

Home daily use laptop is a HP Elitebook - 13.5" IIRC, much nicer size - can't remember the model. i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB Samsung SSD. Great little laptop - so easy to work on the hardware too, don't even need to take out any screws to access pretty much most components.

Home desktop is an old Dell Inspiron (I think...) - Core2Quad, 4GB RAM, 2x 250GB spinning rust disks. Slow as hell but it gets the job done. Needs replaced with something new - acceptable spec is no lower than i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD these days - once you go SSD you can't go back - everything else is too slow. :D

You'll need to post an update when you get the 1070/1080 :D Those look like nice cards. Though I'd probably opt for 2x cheaper cards myself for a 4x or 6x monitor setup instead of 2x - I don't need the performance of a 1080...

My main and only laptop is a 15" , i7 4710MQ CPU 8GB Ram , 30Gb MSata , 256Gb SSD , 200Gb HDD .

Pico is - Quad core Celeron N3150 , 4Gb onbard ram , 120Gb PYL SSD .

It was used for folding on a R9 380X over a 1x PCie link .
