can a hole be drilled through the center of a diode from the light emiting side to the side with the pins.can a new diode design with a hole already in it be created.
if either of these answers is yes then would this make the diode cool better?im still trying to come up with a beam that is hollow.any ideas are appreciated.thankyou.

Take a regular laser beam, then expand it to some 10X its regular diameter. Stick a circular chunk of something with a diameter half that of the expanded beam, and place said object inside the beam. Now you have a giant laser beam with a hole in the middle.

Finally, you just need to telescope the beam back through another set of lenses (like another beam expander - being used backwards) and enjoy your new hollowed out laser beam.

Even if the die of a laser diode could be drilled through like you describe, the effect would definitely not be those you desire. The output would more likely look somewhat normal, except for the horribly messy looking new "ring" of divergence that surrounds the center focused beam.

Honestly, I think the first method will work if you try it.
 
wouldnt the dark spot material reflect back into the diode severely limiting diode life?
 
No, the die of the diode is usually right up against the back of the diode, and no, it wouldn't help with cooling, in fact it'd make it worse.

I don't understand what the drilling is supposed to accomplish. If you just want a "hole" in the beam pattern, just glue some black disc or something on the end of the lens.
 
^Im willing to bet that even that wont work, you would probably end up with some crazy looking circular interferrence pattern.

i believe there is a possibility of trapping hydrogen within a lazor beam.if its ionizing laser then the hydrogen would be ionized and build up charge.this carge would be released in the form of plasm at high temp and voltage.if the beam is cone or tubular.it could also be used as a form of power transmitter.

None of that made any sense.

Imagine if you asked someone why they wanted to build an iridescent miniature piñata, and they replied, "so I can remove the sloshy skidmarks from all these coyote gills and also to improve the efficiency of this over-grown toaster." That's how I feel right about now; I see no correlation at all.
 
The only thing I can think of without just sticking something infront of the beam or using a circle pattern cap would be if you bought a laser and had it built to stay in the circular TEM01.
 
ionizing laser? do you mean a laser that emits ionizing radiation? no such device exists, certainly not one civilians could obtain. Ionizing radiation is dangerous, like really high energy, it carries enough kinetic energy to knock subatomic particles off of atoms, often electrons, ionizing them, hence the name.
