Dynaco ST-70!!! Damn, I've got *4* of those that I have to restore. x_X ... Someday I really want to get around to it.. Mine are all 'working' but those twistlock caps are old, and need to replace the boards with ones that don't require those (7199 is it?) tubes that are made of unobtanium...

It's actually not a stock st-70. It's a new VTA(vacuum tube audio) st-70 that I built from the kit about 5 months ago. So far I've put about 400 hours on it and it sounds great. It's my main entertainment center amp with the tv/tuner/cd player all running through the preamp. Quite the conversation piece too ;D

I once had 1F @ 150V which could arc weld. i wish i hadn't tossed it. and to be on thread topic but off forum topic, i use 2 dynaco mark 3's with some typical upgrades to drive my martin logan electrostatics.

Goes the same with vacuum tube amps and such. For example: I'm working on a home built amp based on a 6550 tube. The plate voltage is 645 V with a current of 210 mA. That will kill you deader than shit. You don't "play" with this stuff. You know what you are doing first. I got hit by a 800 V cap once. Thankfully the circuit was dead, the cap was pretty small, and I only got hit with the residual charge. It literally knocked me off my stool and shorted out my entire nervous system. I don't know for how long. I just woke up on the floor. lol!

Yes, indeed voltage of that sort CAN kill. small caps will give a nasty shock but large cap banks, like the ones I use to build my 5Kw or so TESLA COILS on a full charge can easily blow/burn a finger or 2 off, if you are lucky enough to survive the 30-45Kv @ 3KA surge.

What's really sad is neither one of his parents will let him have a pellet gun, but daddy will buy him a dangerous ADULT device. After all, he might put his eye out with that pellet gun. What's really sad is the useless main stream media. Does anyone notice he has the knowledge of a seasoned Vet on this forum? He knows all the proper terms and etiquette of this forum. He knows and says what everyone wants to hear, and even uses the "/end rant" like most of us. Has all the same hobbies as us. Ok sure, he could of lurked for months before saying anything, but if he did why ask the silly n00b questions? He should have known all the answers to his questions. Go back and read from the first post to the last. No one picks it up this quick. None of it makes sense. I'm calling shenanigans. Something is not right here. Who can you think of who has been banned with the same knoladge as this guy? :thinking:

4KV of DC? How many cans? doesn't matter really. The customer would just walk in and ask where is the technician and where did this smoking pile of ashes come from? lol!

Don't have to tell me. heh Actually best to wear a belt and tuck one hand in there behind your back. I always wonder for just how long my heart was stopped? lol! I had an Audio Research D250 that I bought cheap and repaired. It had a 550 joule power supply. That baby had like 9 big 450v cans in the supply. I forgot how many mics they were, but just tuning that thing on scared me. Used to dim the lights in the house.
