Hell everyone, I am new to this forum and also to this question, Here is what i need

People, I got the message that I can't use laser for this project.
How can I achieve this effect without laser, so
1-is there on the market something that will help me or
2-I will need to built it from scratch
 





Well, you mentioned projectors being safe. Projectors are only safe because you'll instinctively look away if you get caught in the beam. The same thing is possible with a Class 2 laser. I would just buy a cheap-ass Class 2 laser, and a can of instant fog. The only way you'll be able to see the beam of a low-powered laser or flash light is with fog.

Ironically, a class-2 green laser usually costs more than a higher powered green laser because it requires precise adjustment. I would go for a cheap red laser pointer. A very nice one is this one by Atlasnova. It's 635nm so it appears brighter to the eyes than a regular red laser, but is still class 2. Barring that, you can just get a regular red laser pointer and you should be fine. Remember to buy the can of fog.

If you really don't want to use a laser, buy a focus-adjustable LED flash light. Depending on where you get it, it may cost more than the laser pointer though. You'll still need the fog though.

That is what I need but I can't find on the internet
focus-adjustable LED flash light that light the surface
like dot. Can you suggest me...
 
There are a lot of models, mainly from Chinese sellers, so is difficult to give you a model and say "this is that what you need" ..... try searching on priceangels.com, or dealextreme.com, or focalprice.com (or any other you prefer), for "throw to zoom" flashlights (they are usually called this way), and choose the one you prefer (consideringg that, usually, more the "spot" is small and have the led shape, in "zoom" mode, more the beam is tight)

this is going better then I think it will go.

I explore it, but how can I know size of light point at maximum zoom, because I need it to be as laser. From picture and overview I can't know this.
 
There are still optical / phisical limits, for this ..... a light beam that is not a laser, can be collimated, but only until a certain point, and after this, there's not too much to do ..... flashlights that, as example, can focus the "spot" like this one, are almost at the phisical limit (this is, practically, the shape of the emitter chip of the led)

Can be tried to add optical elements for do a more "tight" collimation, but it's all matter of trial, and can't grant a result (for sure, NOT a result similar to a real laser beam)
 
the best i have gotten with an led was a 4in dot at 20ft. and cost a good amount of money for the optics.it can be done.
And they look great.
 
a flashlight?

At that time I was going with the assumption that a laser was what he was needing. So I was trying to figure out what if any reflective surfaces to take into account safety wise and also if there needed to be certain level of power in the dot he needed produced. Unfortuantely, I don't know enough about flashlights to help in that regard but it looks like the others have it covered. ;)

But the only ones i've seen, similar to what you can use, are made with high-power white leds ..... and, as i've said, is difficult (if not almost impossible), to obtain a beam like the ones from real lasers .....

There are some units that you can try, if you want, but i repeat, can't grant that these flashlights can do the work that you need .....

Unfortunately, is not matter of find lights like lasers ..... there's simply not lights like lasers, if they are not lasers .....

How can I know the size of light on surface in millimeters or I must to guess from images. to me this has

and can I somewhat color the light in other color i.e red or green or blue.
 
Sometimes, there are users that post videos, and you can try to guess the size from the objects that they enlight, but is not easy ..... like as example this one


I have found no peoples that have posted the measures, sorry.

About coloring them, yes, it can be dome with filters, but keep in mind that, in this way, you take away a lot of power (the filter "color" the light taking away all except the wanted color, after all) ..... a possible alternative can be swap the original LEd with high power colored ones, but i really have no ideas if there's for sale the same type of LEDs in different colors ..... i've found occasionally some red, green and blue LED-based flashlights, but have no idea about the model of leds that are used in these flashlights, so cannot say if they are swappable .....
 
But can I put something on top of flashlight to decrease the size of light, that to me seam very logical, to simulate filter.
 
You can always try to "add" another lens on top of the first one, but i don't know how it can work ..... those "dome" lenses, also called "condensers", used in the torches, are planned for do their work on a certain distance and aperture from the chip, so it's all matter of trials and experimenting .....
 
very generally speaking, when you are working with single aspherics, larger diameter lens equals tighter spot.

I think he ought to get a low-power green laser
Pros:
-very bright per power, i.e. 5mW of green will be much brighter than 5mW of red
-projects a tiny dot. adding a lens will change the size of the dot.
cons:
-may have significant IR leakage in excess of 5mW
-may be overspec
-can be more fragile/finicky


Or perhaps a low power Blu-ray if he's shining it on a CRT screen
Pros:
-dot is dim, but when it hits a phosphor like in a CRT screen, it glows brightly
-often can be found focusable, for changable dot size
cons:
-often low powered pens are over spec
-dim appearance may lead to a false sense of security


Low power red would be nice too
Pros:
-everyone's familiar with a red
-reds are cheap as dirt, almost. (depending on the dirt)
Cons:
-cheap lasers often aren't focusable.
