Looking to spend ~120 bucks on a pair of headphones with good bass that won't break from normal (ab)use. Metal-frame construction preferred since metal is stronger. What do you guys use and what kind of punishment has it survived?

The 40-dollar ones I bought at wal-mart are made from some polystyrene or similar cheap plastic that broke immediately. Shame, they didn't sound too bad.

By good bass, do you mean actual good bass or just strong bass?

Either way, Beyerdynamic DT770 are very robust, and all parts are replaceable so they should last extremely long.

Why headphones and not earbuds?

Are you going for look, or sound quality?

If you're going for sound quality, I've loved both Shures and Etymotics.

Audio technica ath-m50's. 100$, cant beat the price or sound quality, and great customer support. If you get them though, get the coiled cable- the straight cable is like 8 feet long.

Earbuds are very uncomfortable and won't stay in my ears. That's a shame since they look like they'd be hard to break, although I'm sure the manufacturers have figured out some way to make it easier. Thanks for the replies so far :)

I've had a pair of (plastic) Sennheiser HD 202's for like six years now... they've gotten beaten to hell and back and have performed admirably.

They were like $30 or something... and sound fantastic.
