Hangover advice

One of my favorites, plagiarized from some comedian in my past . . . .

Actually I'm not that surprised ;) I went to a European School and I know a lot of Spanish people. My semi-girlfriend is Spanish/Argentinian and she also eats that late.. which can be a pain if I have dinner at her place because I get really hungry :p

Still - a fairly large man (80kg) usually burns about 1 unit of alcohol (1 normal beer, 1 glass of wine or 1 standard shot) every hour. If you get quite drunk and then stop drinking at 2-3AM you won't be even close to sober before around 3 o'clock in the afternoon next day.. unless you get drunk very easily.

If you want to compare times with a Dane, here is a usual trip to town or party for me if I feel like drinking that night:
I eat at 7, go out at 10. At 10:30 I start drinking. I continue until around 5AM and get to bed at around 8AM, still drunk.
I wake up at 13, feeling a bit hungover and tired.

wow I've never had dinner so early lol, some days I lunch at 5PM xd

I don't know how your body works but mine is more than perfect after 6 hours of no drinking no matter what I've drunk. I usually drink 5 or 6 vodkas maximum, and I need about 3 or 4 hours to be sober again.

That would explain it.. You are one of the lucky people who gets drunk after only a couple of drinks. I can basically go on and on for hours which obviously means I spend a lot more money and hurt my body more.. it sucks.

I have never really counted, but I would say a night of "heavy drinking" to me would mean around 15 beers, 5 drinks (JackD, vodka club, black russian or similar) and 3-4 shots.
As you can imagine, that takes more than a couple of hours to burn off..

when your drinking stick to one thing, and keep it quality.
And NEVER consider bud/miller/coors/busch/oldstyle/pbr beer. That crap is NOT beer!
 
Eat something fatty before going to bed. :beer:

Here is Europe that is usually a kebab (24/7 through weekends :D) or something similair, a greasy burger will do. Only time I have a hangover is when I "forget" or just don't eat grease before bed.

Add a little bit of water and you are practically immune. Well at least I am, but like many things the main variable is your own body.
 
boosted_4cyl: Don't worry, I only drink good quality beer ;) I lived in Belgium most of my life and they are the kings of beer and chocolate! Denmark also has pretty decent beer.

brtaman: Among my friends it's called the 5AM kebab :p Sadly eating it doesn't do much else for me than tasting great..

I advise you something about kebabs. If you ever eat a kebab that is in bad condition, you will regreet it. It has happened twice to me and once to a friend of mine and it's the worst, but really the worst stomachache I've ever had. Really horrible and it lasts up to 3 or 4 days. This has made me and my friend to only eat them casually.

The problem with the 5AM kebab is that the place where you buy it is usually using not fresh meat or whatever... If you don't see how they cut the meat and if it doesn't smell properly, DON'T eat it. My doctor told me it's a frequent problem and that this terrible stomachache I described him is due to the big amount of grease they use in order to get that big pieces of meat. To resume: they are very good when they are good, but they are the last thing I would eat when they are bad. Don't take risks.

I'm sure someone will know what I just described, it's really hard to forget lol
 
I have experienced exactly what you describe Albert, several times. A lot of these places tend to stack huge lumps of fat in between each layer of meat when they stack the kebab.. And when you get them late at night you get a bunch of scrapings they have tried to keep warm all day which have gone bad.

Luckily I have found a place with really nice staff and very good quality. They have a special salad mix and awesome sauces which make a good kebab perfect, and they use the same quality meat I buy in the supermarket! I have become friends with the owner and he often gives me 40% discount.. I'm so happy I found that place, nothing but good experiences with it for 2 years.

I'm not much of a drinker, (never have been) but a lot of the guys I used to hang out with were. They thought it was great to go out drinkin' with me, 'cause I was always happy to be the DD (Designated Driver). I must be allergic to alcohol 'cause it never agreed with me. Back on topic, the guys that I drove for, always said that they took 2 aspirin or ibuprofin the night BEFORE some heavy drinkin' & to the best of my knowledge, none of them ever had any hangovers the next day. I don't know if it actually worked or if it was just the power of suggestion, but THAT seemed to do the trick for them, ESPECIALLY if TEQUILA was the drink of choice the next day.A "hair of the dog" (like a 1/2 bottle 12oz. of WARM beer, yuck) seems to work for some guys also. My advice, DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL !!!!!!!!!!! rob

If I drink a beer its Blue Moon, and liquor is Grey Goose or Patron.
I try to drink as much water as I can before I pass....er, I mean fall asleep. This usually lessens the hangover. And a pedialyte and a spaghetti sandwich for breakfast does the trick.

I recall saying something like that, while hugging a toliet bowl..~35 yrs ago (Boones Farm & cheap beer)
