Haleluia!  I Have Seen the Beam!

Re: Haleluia!  I Have Seen the Beam!

Excellent news Dave.  I actually had the pleasure of having my first bluray (still in parts) in my pocket when we were discussing the eye's ability to see this range of light to this range and bluray being in the 405nm range it was a perfect example of the lower limits that people can see so I raised my hand, and shined it on her projection screen for everyone to see.  She couldn't see it but everyone else did.  Was really cool.

Got a chance to take my 405nm pointer out last night. The beam was very visible, ghostly. It was a dank humid night. Lake water glows a greenish color.

I have to wonder how much of a factor age plays in determining how well one can see this frequency. I know that the eye's sensitivity to blue light declines with age. I believe part of the reason is cataracts (yellowing of the lens, gets worse with age) selectively block the shorter wavelengths. There may be a genetic component too.

Is that a laser in your pocket . . .or are you just really happy to see me :-*

I've been running "actual use" type tests on my new blu-ray. I shined it out the window and noticed that there was a bit of moisture in the air.

I could see the beam!

So I took the unit outside and played for a bit and then got my camera.

WOOOOHOOOOO

Outside, with just a bit of moisture in the air. . . .

Re: Haleluia!  I Have Seen the Beam!

I haven't seen any coherent violet light!! :'( It'll be so long till my 803 sled comes. Can one of you guys shine your blu-ray in my direction so I can see it at night? :D

I'm jealous of all you guys right now! I have to wait probably a month until I get to have something that sexy. I guess I'll just stick to my 3 greens and 1 red for now...

;)

I had to push 150mW, but now I have seen it without fogging or smoking up the house 8-)

Peace,
dave

can't wait for the california fog eh Dave ;D

I'm at the base of the mountains in the Inland Empire. We don't get much fog here. If we weren't stealing all of the water from the Owens Valley, we would be a desert.

Peace,
dave

Me, being a young teenager, can see the beam of my 7mW violet in pitch black conditions.
I find it quite odd how you can barely see the beam of a 150mW violet laser :-?

Yeah. . . I don't hear as well as I use to either ;)

IF you are very careful AND very lucky, you MAY make it to my age.

This beats the alternative though.

Peace,
dave
