I REALLY dont think you guys should be jumping all over this guy's shit. I'm all for protecting ideas, but this is different than a kryton.

Honestly how many different ways can you make a host that holds a laser? The easiest design is tubular because it can be done on a lathe. Is it copying a kryton just because it's a 'tube' shape?

It's simple, it takes an aixiz module, and it's not a kryton. There's nothing wrong with it. People buy kenom's stuff because they want the superior heatsinking of a direct diode pocket.

Kenom doesn't have any barrels for sale right now, so this guy isn't trying to take sales.

EVERYONE has to get ideas from somewhere. I mean, how did ken get his press fit diode design? Probably from an aixiz module. That's perfectly ok because if no one were allowed to use any variation of someone else's ideas, it would be a boring world.

I guess I just dont see the issue. If you think it's too close to ken's design, dont buy it.

I remember a few months back someone copied one of Milos' PS3 blu-rays, now THAT was a blatant copy. I dont feel like this is.

Wendy's sells a hamburger, Mcdonalds sells a hamburger, Burger king sells a hambuger. They are all different and that's why people buy different ones, but when it comes down to it there are only so many ways to make a hamburger!!!

I say the more options we have as far as hosts go, the better. He's not trying to manufacture them to steal sales, he wants a few for himself and was seeing if anyone else might want a few because it's cheaper to get them made in a quantity bigger than one or two.

All flashlights are based off the same basic design because there are only a few ways to do it, it's the small differences in each one that makes one decide on what they want to buy.

Kenom is a friend of mine and I would be the first one to protect against a blatant copy, but like I said before there's only so many ways you can design a simple laser host. A laser host is basically a tube of metal with a hole in the middle to fit a battery and aixiz module, how many ways can that be done??

A viasho portable laser (RPL) looks like a CNI portable laser (Aries) which looks like a SKY portable laser (whatever they are called...) which all look almost exactly like Kenom's new "beast" design.... but it's the small differences that count.

AS I've said, if there ARE differences then it's different. My first version would be the exact same thing as what he's got if he does go the direct lens setup. However if he does do something different, then I can't stop him. And as Ieon rudely points out, I don't have a patent, nor is the idea registered. I don't have the thousands of $$'s to do so.

I didn't plan to reply to this thread, but anyway:

I'm glad to see there are a few sensible people here that actually understand what I was trying to do, but due to the response Ive gotten here I won't be going ahead with it. I can't risk $600 hoping that I can sell the ones I won't use.

To those that defended me, I do appreciate it. To those who would rather wait with a dog-like obedience until kenom decides to make some more hosts, all I can say is that you are cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Give me a break people.  Stop with the childish knee-jerk reactions and ridiculous claims of "exclusive rights." There are no patents, copyrights, etc. on "Kenom's design."  With all due credit, the Kryton barrels are just metal tubes for holding batteries, a switch, a laser diode, circuitboard, and lens.  They're nice (I've got two of each generation), but there really isn't anything "unique" that could ever be patented or "copyrighted" because the concept is not unique.  Kenom was just the first to organize a large group buy around a design based on an idea that had been floating around for ages.  

Therefore Spoz is not "plagiarizing" anything.  He's taking a good idea, designing something himself (even if it looks somewhat like Kenom's), and making a group buy.  Maybe he'll even improve on the design somewhat.  Competition--in any form--is a good thing.  

Furthermore, Spoz is attempting to fill a gap in the current order of things.  If this guy ever even manages to get this thing off the ground, the group buy is a different beast altogether than Kenom's.  Kenom's GBs are huge orders of hundreds of barrels that take months to fulfill, with lots of special orders and stuff.  Spoz's appears to be a very small run that can be completed relatively quickly.  I'm personally predicting this will peter out before it ever begins because there are a lot of hidden costs which won't be foreseen.

Regardless, let the man give it a try.  The last things we need are monopolies on designs and ideas--and the stagnation that comes with them.

adding to the comment above me, if i recall correctly, spoz is just trying to bring down the cost of his own run he was going to do, not turn it into something like what kenom does.
