got the standalone HD-DVD player (new diode!)

Round, not as flat. Looks more like the 6x pattern, but obviously cant keep up power wise. If most people are running the 803's at around 100mA, these diodes should also be just fine at 100mA, I'd say 120mA max.
 





Has anyone else experimented with these diodes? I'm really considering trying one out.

Well, these diodes indeed sound more easy to use. if gooey's data is correct (which is most possible ;)) then they'll be a better buy for amateur enthusiasts that don't have laser power meters. and a power graph will be easier to create :D

maybe they're just the A0 or A1 revision, next gen will be better (they should).

what's weird is that they drop power when overpowered :S, how do they do that in a diode?

The diode in the 0811 sled did that too. Above 140mA the power graph started downhill. We need more data, but the graph looks an awful lot like the 0811.

Yeah, but Gus said he got the diode really really hot. ;)
I think this could be worth looking into again just to see what the diode will do when you don't almost destroy it. 8-)

I just placed a bid on the broken 360 hd dvd add on for 1.05$. Not sure what diodes in there but I'll let you know when/if I get it. :)

Onto the testing:

I turned it on at roughly 30mA and to my surprise it was already lasing. This gave me the feeling that the diode would probably be really weak. The spot also had huge yellow blocks around it... which led me to believe I had overheated it (I got the thing REALLY REALLY hot on accident.. long story) so Anyway I begin adding current. At 60mA it was doing about 45mW. Still had yellow blocks. SO I decided to go straight to 80mA, 70mW with yellow blocks. At 90mA I noticed the blocks were fading away, and it was doing 85mW. Up to 100! At 100mA it's doing close to 100mW and the yellow blocks are gone. This is as far as I have gotten, but I'm still going!

Update: 110mW @ 110mA

Update again: 120mW @ 120mA this thing just keeps going!

Still going!: 131mW @ 129.8mA

Wow... I'm really suprised at how solid this diode is so far... 140mW @ 140mA



Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I am due to receive a B0323 blue laser diode from baltimora2000 on ebay. He published a pin diagram of it with A and K labeled pins - can anyone confirm for me if this is related to Anode and Cathode? (I want to make sure to hook up power properly.) Also I've seen several people building blu-ray lasers just use 150ohm and 9v battery, and another person 49ohm with 100ohm variable resistor and 9V battery. I realize this might not be safest way to run a laser diode what is your experience? I also saw this site fineartradiography.com /hobbies/lasers/blu-ray/index.html which has a nice power-driver circuit diagram.

I would appreciate any input on these. :)

As an HD-DVD enthusiast (R.I.P) i hate to see these things being torn up for the diodes (but i do understand why!). :'(

Yeah. Sometimes it's tough to let go. I know the feeling. I still have a 8-track player in one of my sheds.

My Dad has an old RV, this summer i was able to talk him into letting me "upgrade" his "radio"... it was an AM/FM/ indash 8 track player. ;D He now has an indash AM/FM/sirius ready/CD player that also has aux input on the front for flash drive and iPod. Hes totally blown away that i can put his entire music collection on a keychain flash drive!!! :o

Hi again, here is the result I got with my B0323 405nm laser diode after having finished the regulator circuit for it ( fineartradiography.com /hobbies/lasers/blu-ray/index.html ) and got it working. The B0323 was obtained for $18 and had to remove it from the HD-DVD
unit. Wound up leaving it in the square metal casing because was too difficult to remove, so used a red laser's collimation lens and mounted it so I could adjust the focus in the front.
