Got it today! :D (New style 200mW)

Well, I just ordered one of these as well from DX, I worked extremely hard to pay off my debt this weekend so my parents would let me buy it. So this is my first real high powered laser, well besides that pathetic hack job UV build...
Can't wait for it to arrive, I just want to burn the trim on the desks at school next year, they are totally black...
Anyone have an idea of how long it will take to ship, it says 1-3 days but that would be rare from what I have heard about DX in the past.
Well good luck to you Emc2, I'll let you guys know how it is when I get it. There just isn't enough info on it yet. I bought it because it came with batteries on DX and the Dilda there didn't and I'm on a tight budget. It was this or a true 100mw greenie and I just saw the way this burned in the few videos, what can I say, WOW!!!

I see 2 things wrong there.

First, bringing it to the school. Burning with this without eye protection is not a good idea. And even less if lots of people do the same. Also, if someone put his hand on it you could get on a real problem.

Second, the batteries that come with it are not rechargeable. for 5$ more you had the batteries and charger from O-like aswell as a 180mW power guarantee. DX dildas usually come on 150mW or even less. You shouldn't have bought it there. Cancell it and buy it on O-like if you can.

Yours,
Albert

Thanks for making my day brighter :D +1

The dilda is tough, I accidentally left one on for 20 minutes. It still works just fine. I don't think you need much of a duty cycle at 6V.

on the test... you cheated... you had red burning through a thicker part of the plastic... did anyone else notice that? (i dont mean to sound like a jerk btw) :)

Just curious with the better batteries and say Larry's lenses, how much power could we expect, 300mw? More?

themandalorian;

If the Dilda started with a plastic lens ...

then the Hi-power aspherical glass lens should get you to ~250 ...

and the voltage increase should take you to ~300.

The diode would need to have good heatsinking for that power level.

Well as for the goggles, I have the blue ones from Wicked Lasers and the goggles completely eleminate the laser. You can not see it at all through these things, just where it is burning. So they are goo protection, but you can't see the spot at all.

Did you get the Sport Elite Goggles? They block too much. The laser shades are perfect.

BTW lemonwonder:...it doesn't matter if you are pointing the laser at dark things. If you are burning things up close, eye protection is a must. You were not clear on that and since one of the main reason people build or buy lasers is to burn things, I think its a good idea to be clear on this.

650 nm (red) Laser Shades (blue in appearance) are apparently available from Susie, they're just not listed on her website. I sent an email to her regarding the Wicked Lasers model.

She made an offer. Compare:
WL $40 + $22 ship
OL $38 + $4 ship

I ordered 2 pair. Will post results in a couple of weeks.

Sorry for that

Your match is white, you need to color the match black with a marker and try it again. Black changes the light into heat much easier than white or red. Also, keep the laser still by setting it on a table or in a tripod, the laser must be very still to burn a match.
