Goldenstar laser 1.5W 532nm Lab Laser

Jeff, that is excellent! I've always wondered how far away you could be and still actually see the beam.
The beams are very bright looking at them from their point of origin, but they are however, very thin. I was afraid you wouldn't be able to see them at any great distance, but, as you say, "they are wickedly bright"!
I wish I could do something like this, but the air traffic is just to heavy.

I wonder how those Goldenstar 1.3W red units will perform, considering what we've seen from the 532's?

BTW - I've ordered a couple of 25mm dia. IR filters just to verify that these are filtered properly.

PS - Maybe you could round up some G.B. participants at the casino. J/K!

regalis, thanks for the reminder. The IR filter took forever to arrive, and I just put it off to the side, and forgot all about it!

I just checked it at almost 3W output, the total drop in power with filter in place was 120mW. Subtracting the 2.5% (75mW) drop in 532nm that the filter manufacturer states is blocked by the filter, and total IR seems to be around 45mW (120mW-75mW = 45mW).

That works out to be about 1.5% IR output. I'm not sure what to expect since the unit seems to already have an internal filter, nor do I know the quality of the additional IR filter that I used.

wow. that's better overspec luck than your 589nm CNI, you gotta stop hogging all the good luck!!!

3W of green. that's too much illumination for my feeble mind to fathom. looks like all one could want from a green except portability. must resist... must resist!!!

still a class 4 with ONE regular old 1.5V battery? yes please

Mimi from Goldenstar dropped me a line by email a few days back asking how things were going. She was also asking if there was anything she could do for me (sell to). I have kicked the idea of putting together another small GB with her ever since I tested the 1.3w red we got from GS. Although I don't have immediate plans for some sort of projector project I thought it might be worth getting one of these reds to add to my collection of the 532 3w and 445 1w labs I have. With halloween coming up I was thinking of throwing together some sort of hybrid spirograph type of projection system that used three colors and a common final mirror that modulated the speed of the motors/mirrors spin with the output of the music we will be playing outside. If I can drum up enough interest in a few different GS offerings quickly, enough to get the 8% discount and reduced shipping we got last time, I will place an order. Just curious if anyone suscribed to this thread is seriously interested in one of these in the next couple weeks? If so, PM me. Watch for a GB thread to be formed in the near future. I am about 80% committed to doing one right now, and one or two serious parties would push me to 100% almost certainly. Plan on saving a total of around 10-11% total from their retail offerings once the shipping costs are factored (CONUS parties only). Not a ton but half a tank of gas or a nice dinner for two somewhere decent.

Make a thread on photonlexicon. If anyone will be interested, the people there will be

Yeah, I had considered that but I know a handful of people at PL and I myself am generally unknown there. I think I have a total of five or six posts there. As it turns out, it was actually someone at PL who introduced me to Goldenstar. I think (I have slept a few times since then) I may have made a thread at PL when I was planning to use Meierlight for their 1800mw 532nm, a mirror image of the GB thread here. IIRC someone there saw the price I was shooting for with Meierlight and they responded with a post saying there was a 1500mw at GS for $500. After that, that particular GB thread was discarded. Not much of a presence there really, doubtful I would have much traction there with a lack of reputation and the outcome of my last thread there. What I will probably do is post a thread with a few pertinent details and a simple link to a GB thread here.

I just sent Mimi an email asking if she would consider allowing the inclusion of any of their listed lab units in a GB and offer the same discount or more. That way someone who needs something entirely different could choose whatever off their shelf and get a discount. I also asked her if there was any one item or series of lab laser they have overstocked and need to move off the shelves. If so I asked if she might be willing to give a huge discount of up to 25% or more. I am itching for some real bargains, something that would get everyone excited again. Most GB's these days seem to be of maginal value and are not much to get stirred up over. I would like to see something like a GB where we knew up front we would be getting a 2.9-3.1w 532 lab for less than $470. It would have been much more enticing I bet. Who knows what may come of my inquiry, if you don't ask you will certainly not receive....

Anyways, I wont hijack this thread much more discussing this, just keep your eyes open over at the GB threads for a new GB soon. With any luck we can get the same deal or better with more options.

PM about to be responded to....

That is realy a very nice unit. I also must resist :D
Thanks for testing ;)

No problem, thanks for the reminder. :)

@jmillerdoc - Good luck on your possible G.B.
@Shakenawake - You're right, its got everything except portability. 3W of 532 in a handheld ....awesome!
I think that would officially be in "Lightsaber" territory! BTW - I will do my best to share my good luck with all of the participants of Jeff's latest G.B.

P.S. - Hey guys, remember, resistance is futile!

Necro warning! I don’t do this often, but a worthy thread...

I’m late to the party, missed this thread before. Outstanding specs Jeff, thin high power density beam with that low of a divergence, a very good deal and overspec too!

Thanks Chris, it's been a while since I've looked through this thread, and you are correct, it was a good deal even if it was 'only' on spec, but twice the rated output is amazing! :yh:

PS - Who is this Peter guy?

I know it’s an older post, but those beam shots are so nice, I gotta chime in. :gj:
