Indeed, they don't have the GGW's right now, they will have them in the beginning of the next month. I heard something about the fifth of December.. But that was just a guesstimate.

I completely agree.  Participants of a GB should be able to "watch" the first post for updates, and not have to sit and sift through 60 pages of an entire thread to find one critical piece of information.  Mind you, this is not a complaint... i am happy to be a participant of this GB, but i do have a busy life outside this wonderful forum.  Thank you amk for the work that you have put into this GB, it IS appreciated.

It's gonna be tight.. At least for me..

Mine have to go to Scopeguy first, for partial extraction, so the package is smaller, and only then to me. If i want to get them fast, that means express, and express means it gets here in four days and is then stuck at the customs for five (if they don't believe the invoice).. ;D


Which reminds me.. Where the hell is the magical 12x diode from the future? :-?

Well, i have to sleep, then i have to work, i can't do anything till the post office closes tomorrow.

But i started extracting it, taking many pictures of every step.

I carefully cut the round flat cable thingy off the pins, and the diode has no markings. I removed the strange window on the front. The window is identical to the ones in the ebay auction. I heard from a reliable source, that most of the diodes in that auction also have no markings. I saw a graph of one of those no-marking diodes, so i have something to compare to.

The diode is glued in the heatsink rather good and the heatsink is hard. This one won't be as easy to extract as 4x's and PHRs. I'll have to cut the heatsink carefully with a diamond plated disk.




Otherwise, why does everyone, when shipping diodes internationally, package them like drugz?

First Class Air envelopes rarelly get opened, but EMS ALWAYS gets opened. I can imagine our customs getting wood, whenm they saw the aluminum foil ball. They get excited for much less. Wrapping a diode in alu-foil is THE #1 best way to get our customs to open it! They probably gathered the entire crew around the table, put on latex gloves and started unwrapping it layer by layer.. My only pleasure is imagining the looks on their faces, when they finished carefully unwrapping the ball with tweezers, and saw a weird square metal thing instead of the powder like substance they expected..

Heh... well then all we need to do is a little "conditioning" - everybody start sending innocuous small items to Igor, wrapped carefully in aluminum foil. Jelly beans and small gumdrops come to mind...

Before long they will tire of opening foil packages, and leave Igor in peace. Either that or we start up a collection to bail or bribe Igor out of some dungeon... ;D

also, yea, Sleep and Work are sooo overrated these days....

I couldnt think of a better way to wrap it... I have some of the WORST USPS clerks at my local post office. They refused to let me ship the diodes in what "I called an anti-static Baggie"... (yea, my fault for waiting till the post office to stuff it all in an express envelope). So I was forced to wrap it in some tinfoil I had on me (dont ask), and the clerk took the liberty of wrapping it in some paperish stuff she had behind the desk (I didn't ask...).

Anyhow, I am glad I got it posted, That is always the biggest obstacle in my local area.... I think I should move...


I cant express with words how eager I am to get this thing over with, big transactions + non-English speaking people (can't blame them though, they are Chinese businesses in china, and i guess if I am going to deal with them, its me who has to learn their language   :-/ ) = tired

I will be on vacation for the next couple days, and I am hoping I will not check up on LPF during my holidays, but due to the fact that I have no life, I probably will  ;D. To those of you who actually read this far in the post, I commend you, if you want post saying you did following this post, and please answer if I am not here to the question "Why haven't I seen AMK for 2 days in this thread?!??!"

So basically you unwrapped your package of... something, and then wrapped the diode in it, and then shipped it off to me with EMS Expreess?
In that case even the customs dog got wood, when they were unwrapping the diode... The dissapointment must have been so much worse.

Here is the magical "12x" diode from the future. Picture taken just after i unwrapped it from the ball of alu-foil..


The window on the front and the funny round balls of solder look exactly like the diodes on ebay. But i know for a fact, that those sleds are sold for cheap from the supplier. These cost more for some strange reason... But so far everything looks the same.

I carefully clipped off the flat cable from the pins, and removed the window from the front.
After the removal of the cable, the funny round solder blobs are even more obvious.. I've never seen solder points like this.. At least not in professional electronics.

The diode has no marking under the flat cable. But neither do most of the diodes in the ebay auction..


The heatsink is hard, and the diode can't be popped out by bending it. I'll have to cut it carefully with a diamond cutting disk.
The black thing between the metal heatsink and the diode, seems to be some sort of thermal epoxy. It's hard, but brittle. This will make the extraction easier, as i won't have to cut to the diode, just to the epoxy.

looks like you could also just cut off the corners of the square box/heatsink, and that should either loosen it or/and give a good spot for careful prying.

(I know you've most likely already extracted it)
