Or you could grab ten skyray kings for a lower price, put them together, and VOILA! ~20,000+ Lumens. Quite literally a wall of light :D

Going to be a bitch to recharge 40 batteries though. :tinfoil:

You really should have decent batteries, if not stock up also at FT... best 18650 prices I know of.

Obviously the Skyray King is NOT a pocket light, but it is pretty small, and puts out a TON of light.

In a pocket format, IMO the absolute best dollar to quality ratio light is this: Crelant 7G2CS 658 Lumen Tactical flashlight (XML-U2)

(Order a bit more to hit $50 for free shipping, I suggest the battery carriers, silicone lubricant or anything else that catches your interest.

It will throw OK, but not having a larger reflector obviously will not perform up to the same levels as true, non pocket-able throwers. It's at the edge of what I consider to be a pocket light.

Use coupon code BLF at both to sites to save a bit. For a little over $75 you'll have a monster flooder and good pocket light.

Good throw in a pocket light is kind of hard to achieve without a bulbous reflector (to me good throw is 500 meters plus). If good throw is what you're after, you can forget about being able to stick it into your pocket.

I really doubt that's going to have the XM L2 emitters, heck they are like 7.00 bucks at the cheapest price and I have to say that they prolly aren't in the skyray unless they had an assembly line stoppage. That being said I ordered one and If they are not in there I will be unboxing it on u Tube as well as review here and it won't be friendly trust meh:eg:.

Still if they are XM-L it's still a good deal:shhh::shhh::na: any one know shipping time guesstimates for the company fasttech?

The newer skyrays (and clones) are t6, and xml u2. The FT all seem to be t6 and u2.

To enter the BLF coupon code, there is a link when you view cart "Have a coupon code?" click that and you get a text box.

Shipping times can vary a lot, but generally pretty fast. I had orders from them as fast as seven business days, and on the flip side, I'm waiting on a order right now that I placed 26 days ago.

For $36 you really need to temper your expectations somewhat.. don't expect surefire/fenix/nitecore level of quality.

Well the amount they are asking is tied to either the shear total they are selling or they got a killer discount from the sky ray group. If they sold a surfire for 30.00US then you still get a surefire. My expectation is that I get either T6 or U2 which as long as they turn on will be bright, as long as it's a true sky ray king all's good even if I have to wait like a long time (Hope not) that's where I get the low price from. Total lack of convenience vs. total crap light. Hope you understand what I mean. I gotto, go thanks IE:beer:
 
I got three skyrays from FT so far... two different versions all ordered under the same SKU.

All of them are 100% worth what they are selling for imo.

I also got the original skyray in NW from CNQ... I don't think the CNQ one is worth the $18 difference.
 
I modded my Thrunite Ti Firefly version with a Nichia emitter, the famed NVSL219AT-H1. B10 output bin (highest flux), L voltage bin (lowest Vf).

Highly recommended! Once you see it, you'll forget about bragging about most lumens. If you'll pardon my pun, you'll see the world in a much different (and yet, somehow so familiar) light!

I'd recommend driving it up towards its max, though. At lower currents, the CRI does drop off a bit.

@BShanahan14rulz: I would be interested in seeing the result. I know nothing of what you speak, except that the flashlight you modded sounds quite expensive. What is the impressive part about the Nichia Emitter?

Oh I reserve some bragging rights for when my modded crelant 7G5CS is finished.

With the aspheric head especially, and even without it, I expect it will positively spank most lights :D

To me, it's starting to be less about lumens and more about THROW.
 
Throw seems like a really cool concept to me. I was thinking about just how far some of these flashlights are able to throw and it just blew my mind. Like...some flashlights out there are upwards of 300m...THAT IS OVER THREE FOOTBALL FEILDS!!!! Does that mean that someone three football fields away from you would have a decent amount of light from the flashlight that you are holding? I cannot wait for my flashlight to come in so I, too, can discover the wonders of modern flashlights! :D
 
This flashlight bug is really starting to sink its teeth in. I got a notification with shipping details early this morning, so hopefully MD-Lightsource will get the Flashlight in the mail today. I hardly think it will take long to ship from Houston, TX to Austin, TX. Like 3 days tops, right? Ugh I am too excited. Last night was up til two trolling forums.

Finally got my 3 posts out of the way over at CPF....would you suggest any other flashlight forums? I love forums, and they are a lot of fun to read what people say and I cannot wait until I have the experience and knowledge that many of the members have in these areas.....

Ahh, nm. The modded version is even more of a thrower with less spill.

Mix of throw and flood is ideal imo. That's why I kind of fell in love with the TK75... has lots of flood, but throw is very far from shabby... rated for 600 meters, but floods almost as well as the king up close.
