GB: Diffraction Gratings from Dragonlasers

Okay I put a list in the second post of everyone who is getting one. I am going to calculate shipping now. Based on everybody being in the US, I figure I will use bubble envelopes with the gratings surrounded on each side by cardboard and more bubble wrap. What do yall think of that?

Cardboard is probably plenty rigid enough. Hopefully we can get them all out without scratching

There will be tissues between the glass and cardboard to prevent scratches

Remember to tape the cardboard to the interior of the envelope so that if USPS wrecks the packaging they don't fall out.

Put me down for a fan grating, I guess. I'm a fan of fans.

On last GB, NO4H99 did a sandwich of 4 layers of very thick, like
1/16" cardboard or pressboard and tissue with the grating in the
middle. It worked very well, I don't think a grating was broken.

cool . looking forward to seeing some pictures of your laser also

I too am looking forward to seeing some pics of that 30mW 589nm Spartan laser.

The sodium flame has a characteristic yellow color due to emission of wavelength 589nm,
interesting fact, but I believe it has nothing to do with the diode laser doping to produce
the color. Correct me if I am in error.

Not in the laser, but it is used to excite sodium ions in our upper atmosphere for calibrating telescope optics.

It has been almost a week since the last post so I figured I would give an update. Still waiting on Brucemir's opinions on his right now. Hope everyone is doing well.

doing well. ready to pay whenever you're ready....

though with the 589, you know you could likely bump it up in power in theory with some work probably...though honestly 30mW is pretty bright. its just about as bright as green. placing two of the same power next two each other, its hard to tell the difference. even 5mW is amazingly bright and easy to see.

I just sent Dragonlasers an email to begin selecting my laser so I am going to start collecting the funds this weekend. I will figure out the pricing and PM all participants.

Also, when you send your payment be sure to put your LPF name in the comments so I can check it off.

Payment sent minutes ago. The only reason I am in this GB is to see those 30mW 589nm
Spartan laser photos. (and the gratings) :>)
