What?! You mean windows isn't free?

I think i'm okay with this cheap crappy pc i bought along with the video card and PSU i ordered. I ordered a new 550W PSU.

Hopefully the PSU fits. If not, i'll look into transferring it all into a new case that will fit everything.

IMO, if Microd:)ck didn't put so many restrictions on the oem, and price the retail version so high, I can say with certainty they would've made a much larger profit off of me, over the years :p

Now, re: that Acer 'thing' -- you can't replace the power supply in it.

And for all of you who say you can -- get this into your heads:

The ATX Power Connector specification is NOT the same as the ATX Power Supply form factor specification. Clear?

Good. Now just because a PSU may use the 24+4 (or any variant thereof, including but not limited to 24+8) power connectors does not imply any other PSU is a drop-in replacement.

Why? Because the physical form factor is different. It's a damn small form factor box, for cryin' out loud. A standard ATX power supply's thicker than the damn chassis is.

What it actually uses is a proprietary PSU that's compliant with the ATX power (but not form factor) standard. Got that?

Sure the connectors are the same, but you're not going to be able to fit it inside your case.

See that now? The best you'll be able to do is have the PSU hanging out the back of the computer with the cables running into it.

Oh, and I have no idea how you're going to fit the GTX 260 into the chassis.

The chassis has half-height expansion slots. The eVGA GTX 260 is a full-height card.

And none of you picked up on that?

We sure didn't, I was under the impression that the case was a normal sized medium-tower style, it appeared like that on the photos...

I never saw the photo of the backside, though.

Moh, you really shouldn't rush on with buying things.
Can you cancel the order? I'd reccomend you do that if possible, or do a return if not.

I've seen the GTX 260 myself. It won't fit, no way.
 
He mentioned transferring everything to another case if it didn't fit, so the PSU size is no longer an issue.

The half height expansion slots are a killer though. Good catch.

Game over Moh. Cancel orders, and restart.
 
You can pick up a decent case for like $30-40 or so dollars you know... My gigabyte case I've had for 3 or so years now looks great and does it's job; holds my computer together.

That and considering how inexpensive it was it looks pretty damn sexy too.

My only issue with it was the steel inside... I cut myself a few times on the sharp edges getting stuff in when I first put my computer together.

Also, Dell loves to use non-standard components in their computers. Why? Hell if I know. Probably something to do with upgrades and money. I'm willing to bet that the motherboard is non-standard too... and non-standard fan connectors too.

I hate dell.

And yes, i'll probably be buying a new case to make everything fit.
I assumed I would have to with the power supply. Or I might do a mod and findw something comical to put it in....

Half of my company will be away next week... with me left in charge of the office... safe to say I'll be taking a day or two off, coming in late, and leaving early. All that time will definitely be spent with diablo :eg:

Also, wondering... should I start a new thread or just hijack this one... need a Gaming Laptop on a Budget? :p
 
Would anyone be kind enough to recommend a new tower case to swap everything into?

I also just noticed that the plug-ins on the back of the video card are not VGA.

I hate technology.

What I'm using: Link although I got mine as a combo, and it doesn't have USB 3.0.

Basically you need any mid tower case, that uses a standard size UPS... the more open places with mesh the better.

Edit: I ended up building my computer piece by piece, as I saw parts come up for sale I liked. Did the math on how much my setup runs at regular/slightly discounted prices, came to ~$2700, as it stands now :tinfoil: My original budget was $900. The core of the system actually did end up being right around that, at the time. Hard drive prices have really gone up because of the japanese earthquake.
