Game: Guess the mystery object !

GBD - How big is that thing?

Its roughly 1.5" in diameter and 1" long.

Here is another hint, this thing is mostly made of copper and its a critical part for the appliance to work and once again, its in most of your guy's houses.

This thing was originally sealed and was a piece of the part in question, I just cut it off with my lathe to show the inside.

Here it is again next to a AAA for size referance.

It looks like it might be from a drill or a knob of some sort. It looks familiar but I can't think of where I've seen something like that.

Sorry guys, Hemlock wins.

This is a copper cavity of a microwave oven magnetron, it emits microwave radiation that cooks your food. (you need to remove the heatsink assembly and cut the tube open to see what is in the picture.
The larger assembly consists of two powerfull magnets and a mess of aluminum fins to keep it cool (as well as a fan).

It is ~6.5 mm diameter and is improtant in a battery powered appliance.

Good --- That is a small chip of Am241 in the holder I'm told. It is the heart of the smoke particle detection chamber.
