FS: Stainless Steel 18650 Kit! Polished! Perfect for 445...

Jay, the host looks superb!

Between getting some PV cells soldered on to a solar receiver the past few days I've finally found enough time to put the host together and snap some pictures:

Loving the easy focus knob - it's a bit loose but that just makes it easier to adjust the focus quickly. Going to shoot down some meteors tonight and try to get pictures of it in action!

Glad you like it!

The 'looseness' is the lens threads in the AixiZ module...

Just use some Teflon tape around the lens threads. You have to just trial and error depending on how thick your Teflon tape is.

I use heavy duty 1/4" tape and it takes about 1 1/2 wraps for a nice snug fit.

Here's the stuff:
1/4" x 520" HD (Heavy Duty) 550[DEG]F PTFE Tape | Fastenal

i cant wait to get mine, hopefully i dont mess anything up since this is my first build, any suggestions on a guide or is it pretty self explanatory been going through the forums for over a month just reading everything trying to pick it up

There are some assembly tips shown in the first post...

After you get your diode pressed into your module, you just need to connect it to the lead wires which will be ready for you. ('Hot' option)

The most important part of assembly, is to be careful of ESD. A diode can
die just from the spark from the tip of your finger.

Also, do not install the battery until you have your diode connected.
Because the driver can be damaged if powered without a load...

Can't stress enough the importance of proper eye protection. It will instantly damage the eye with a direct shot or even a reflection off of a shiny object...

thanks jay ill have to get a a wrist band for this to be sure, ive typically done lots of computer work didnt know it applied here as well, also need to get a solder kit and i have no experience there any specific one i need or just any from menards/lowes would work

I use 60/40 size .032 solder with a fine tip iron...

Do a youtube search and you will see some soldering tutorials that will be very helpful...

wbayw, I'm sending your Stainless Steel 18650 'Hot' option kit with copper heatsink and AixiZ 445 lens today. (Wednesday)

Set at 540mA's per your request...

Thanks!

P.S. For those waiting on the Stainless Steel 18650 kits, there may be some more delay. Possibly not, but this was my last host that I had on hand. I'm really sorry about the wait. I wanted to keep everybody informed though...

I have 25 hosts on order. Three different orders from two different suppliers. I should have had some of the orders a week ago. I think they may be back ordered.

But that said, I could get them tomorrow. It's just a pain trying to keep them in stock with the demand.

These orders were placed 7/25, 8/9, and 8/24...

That's to show you how I have been trying to keep stock and it messes me up when I can't get them...

I sure hope I get some of my orders soon...

the aluminum used, is it pure or an alloy

and if so is it 6061 6063 or 1050a if you can machine that stuff without it deforming

is a thermal paste used anywhere?

and this might sound crazy but have you looked into using synthetic diamond as a heat sink? - I know it can be made into wafers so you could cut them into circles and stack them up like washers and use them as a heat sink

I think you can get it for as cheap as $1 per mm square so yea it would be expensive but the duty cycle could maybe be constant for something this small and that would be a first

also lasers are cool enough if you have diamond cooled lasers that is so cool the only thing better would be an actual light saber

I use 6061...

I never use thermal paste, but some do...

I just haven't found it necessary. I don't like the mess it can make. If you use it, be very sparing. It can cause problems if it works it's way onto the diode...

Interesting idea about the synthetic diamonds...

yea the diamonds are cool, I was talking about this with friends and they all want a laser that is diamond cooled, lol

if you are not doing any serious machining then you should try 1050a it is softer but has a way better heat dissipation then the others

the thermal paste, they make diamond thermal paste that has crushed diamonds in it and it is the best you can get - its messy like all thermal paste but would it (or any other thermal paste) make for a better heat sink or is the compression fitting good enough

Order update:

For those who have ordered this Stainless Steel 18650 kit from me...

I just want to let you know that I have a total of 35 of them on order now.

4 different orders from 2 different suppliers. It's not easy trying to keep them on hand.

There is too much demand for them right now, and the suppliers are back ordered. My order dates for the 4 orders, are 7/25, 8/9, 8/24, and 8/27...

I just wanted to share this information so that you can see that I have been desperately trying to get the hosts and even keep extra on hand.

But my last 15 went quickly, and my order from 7/25 should have been here a week ago...

It could show up any day though...

If you change your mind about your order, just message me and I will refund quickly. No need to do a PayPal claim or anything like that please...

Thanks for your patience, I'm doing the best I can.

Keep up the Hard work Jay.:) Thats what makes you such a Great person to Deal with.

You are a one man show that Does a very :gj: in making high quality Kits also answering emails and PM's all at the same time. These Kits are put together by your own 2 hand not robots But sometime i think you are one.;)

Put me down for one. I will PM with details and questions a little bit later. I sent one PM asking if you could press fit the diode for me, but disregard that, I just bought one already press fit into an AixiZ module, yay for being resourceful!

BTW, this is the coolest looking kit I've found so far. Mad props
