FS: Sonar Laser Cases!

I've got more than enough experience and the means to turn this into a fully functional laser.

Those comments were directed at el-taco :)

I know YOU have all the experience and equipment to make this into a laser kenom, lol. Heck, you could MAKE these cases :P

Yeah not quite. I still don't have a lathe (that will soon be rectumfied) but have access to a machine shop any time I need it. (thanks Tallaxo, jayrob, john_lawson, Hemlock Mike, and daniel_briggs.) ;)

That's about the only thing Wicked did right, was thoroughly polish their turds. They have some beautiful cases for sure. I'm in love with the look of- I think its- the Elite.

I kinda regret not having my BR put in one of these.

Regret nothing! You can purchase one of mine! :D

That's the whole idea, lol

I have my entire collection now though!

Seriously, I think I have all the diode lasers I want.

Wierd, I know... :-?

I am interested in the Sonar Case, but I need know how hard it's to put it to use without a lathe. :-/

People are trading this case here, but I have yet see anyone put it to use.

It is a HOLLOW tube of metal. It has a hole for a button switch, a screw on aperture cap, a screw on tail cap (with spring) and that is it. If you do not have access to a lathe, or cannot order a heatsink/placeholder for the Aixiz module, then you are sunk 100%. They are a total biatch to work with (I have three on the bench ATM) and...well, nothing else to add, I suppose....they are NICE cases, but you MUST design a way to immobilize the 12mm Aixiz module inside a 20mm (approx) metal tube, and work from the inside out on your design - or they will sit forever on YOUR bench ;)

NOT knocking this sale - it has merit - and he has NOT understated the need to be "savvy" in order to make this work. Just adding in my humongo amount of BS to this thread, too <for all you haters out there>

Don't worry senkat, I appreciate your input. I've been saying the same thing throughout this thread, so someone agreeing with me is no problem :)

These ARE hard cases to work with. The advantage is they look amazing, but the con is they are tricky to work with.

Like I've said several times. I am really targetting this sale to competent DIY builders with access to things like lathes who can create the proper heatsinks, build the laser then resell them. If you're just a casual DIY builder, I suggest a Kenom barrel. If you're looking to create some amazing looking lasers to sell and you've got the tools, buy some of these :)

Do you think you could take a pic of the inside of yours and include an aixiz module in the frame for a size reference?

I don't have access to a lathe, but I do have a drill press (or at least a *dremel* press), and I wouldn't mind ordering special bits to try and drill out a hole for an aixiz module to fit in...

Hey, check this out. This is the diagram Wicked sent be about the Sonar case :)

Not hugely helpful about the inner workings, but it's a start. Once they arrive to me I'll do some thorough pics of the inside and the parts.

Hmmmm.  YOur right that's not very helpful.  Would be hugely helpful if someone wanted to make one.  LOL  That is amazing though that my barrels are almost EXACTLY the same dimensions in diameter and length.  Hmm might have to look into making a screw in aperture cap like these have.

You are missing the point, I think..... picture this as an example :

Take a toilet paper tube - now place a "chapstick" inside it. The Chapstick represents the Aixiz module, and the toilet paper tube represents the Sonar case....

Hopefully that will assist those of you that did not understand what I meant by a COMPLETELY HOLLOW TUBE. There is nothing to "drill" out with the exception of the aperture cap - to allow the BEAM to clear the emissions point.

No - that is not me being nasty, for all of you super sensitive "people" out there. just re-re-re-re-stating what I previously typed is all.

As Murudai stated - the Kryton is a MUCH better choice for anyone who does not have access to a LATHE - or for those of you that do not have a clue {this is my own addition} as far as which end of the soldering iron is hot goes.... Yup...brutally honest, sarcastic, and to the freaking point. This is a no-brainer, as it was from the first post ! IF you have a LATHE - and want a Sonar case - then buy them. If you DON'T have a LATHE, then buy it only if you want a nice hollow tube to decorate your workbench. ::)

If you bought a solid metal bar that could fit flush into the Sonar case (and I'm sure you can, those things come in lots of sizes) then you could definitely use a drill press to drill a hole in it for the module and you'd be set! :)

I has news!

Dark_Horse has graciously agreed to make some heatsinks for the Sonar Cases! ;D So there is no need to worry about manufacturing your own! This solves the biggest problem with these cases, how to mount the diode.

I'm canceling the current offers for now.

It will take around a month for the heatsinks to be ready for sale. The heatsinks will be sold with the Sonar Cases in the one package. The new price for both will be around $70-80 shipped, it depends on what Dark_Horse will be able to make the heatsinks for. There will be a total of 8 of these units up for sale.
