FS: Pocket Mini Build Kit! - Easy Assembly!

JAY! I got my kit today and finished the build today! I must say the weight is very nice heat sinking is good and I LOVE IT :)
sooo... BUY IT!
thanks jay!

Man that was fast! Thanks for posting back...

Well then, we have another believer! :D
Jay

wow jay ive left this build on for 9 minutes and its not even warm :o this must be beacuse the heat sink does not use an oring so it is just touching the top?
again jay thanks i love it :)
this is a must have for laserists :)

Yes, the design works quite well...

Because the heatsink and the pill are pressed together and tightened into the head of the host. Then the back half of the host screws on as well. In effect, the entire unit is the heatsink! ;)

Smaller that you thought, isn't it?
Jay

way smaller then i thought :o witch pleases me even more ;)
about the star emitter would i need a driver or could i just run it off two AA batts? ::)

Yes, 2 X AA direct is fine for the emitter...

I have found that the battery supply makes a huge difference on how much current the emitter will draw.

* A 3.6 volt Lithium rechargeable battery will give over 1 watt.
* A 3.0 volt Lithium primary will give between 350 and 500mA's.
* A pair of AA Lithium will give about 600mA's.

Use lithium batteries. If you use Alkaline, you will not see much current. Maybe 160 to 200mA's. Still bright, but obviously anything over 500mA's is going to be very bright!

You will want to use a little thermal adhesive to attach the emitter to some sort of heatsink...

Senkat, Hey Greg I'll have some more of your Pocket Mini Kits in the mail before the Post Office closes today. (Tuesday)

Rasser, same goes for your kits and other items...
Jay

If I was to buy this module and diode, would it fit into this host and heatsink? THanks, im very noobish

Since I dont have 10 posts it is BluRay's Br diode in AixiZ module

Yes, this kit is for using the 'business' end of an AixiZ module as shown in the pictures. See the first post... (but it would work with a Meredith as well)

So if you got a PHR diode mounted in an AixiZ module, you just take off the back barrel part of the module, and mount the front part into the heatsink for this Pocket Mini Kit! :)

But just to warn you, although this kit is actually a fairly easy assembly, you must have some basic building skills. In particular, the ability to set the current on a FlexDrive using a test load.

Other than that, even thought it is small, this kit is easy...

The host is made of aluminum. It's anodization is of very good quality. The tail clicky is a very good quality clicky as well...

So I could get this de and re-anodized by a professional? If so, I may (again) consider buying this.

I heard you could do that, but I don't claim to have the sure answer to that question...

I can tell you that it is a nice host, and a superb build! ;)
Jay

Rasser, your other Pocket Mini Kit, sleds, and AixiZ modules will be in tomorrow's mail! (Tuesday)

Please let me know when you get the package! :)
Jay

Senkat, two more 'Pocket Mini Kits' coming your way Greg! :)

How are you liking them so far?
Jay

I FINALLY got around to building these little gems.  They are indeed one of the easiest builds I have ever done.

Here are the parts

The drivers attached (I still needed to trim down the corners and trim off the excess wire at the solder joints)

Thanks for designing another sweet system, Jayrob.

If you can solder and set a driver, you can build one of these delightful little lasers

If you don't want to build one, keep your eyes peeled in the Buy/Sell/Trade board ;)

Peace,
dave
