FS: Pocket Mini Build Kit! - Easy Assembly!

Ah this host is so awesome, now with a copper heatsink... MUST resist! :) Great work jay :)
 





Hi guys, i'm going to make my first laser, i have a diode from an old dvd burner, (though i'm still not sure which diode is the dvd burning one :S ) was wondering if this is a good place to start, and also :
1. What parts would i need aside from those included with the 'hot option'
2. If this build is successful, i may decide to get the meredith glass, can i install it at a later time?
3. Does the copper heatsink improve effectiveness or is it just for looks? :)
4. Seeing i'm relatively new, will i be able to focus the lense without the ezfocus mod?

p.s. This is probably a very obvious question, but, the prices for the options, do they include the standard cost or must i add them together?

Wolf11, copper is much better for heatsinking and is recommended for an 8X build, or even a 6X. But honestly, the aluminum works just fine...

The EzFocus adapter is not needed either. Just an option for easier focusing. The AixiZ module has a nice 'finger grip' focus ring that works fine for focusing.

About pricing optionsl... You add the option prices. The pricing is shown in the first post of this thread. Just PM me...

About the 'Hot' option... This includes a FlexDrive installed with lead wires soldered on for you, and current pre-set. I can make recommendations for current depending on which diode you will be using.

EZ-build it only took an hour and it was my first.
I hope the pictures are attached, it's my first time at that, too.
For the beam shot, I had to light some incense. Now I reek of jasmine, there must be a better way. Any tips out there?

And just to mention that if anybody (who doesn't already know), wants a complete build by the best there is, see IgorT!

This Pocket mini kit is a very nice little kit, and gives good heatsinking properties with the metal pill making good contact with the heatsink. (because you screw it in place tight) And now available with the copper heatsink option! :D

But Igor's new V3 heatsink design for his builds are a much more advanced design. They are a 'direct diode press' design with no AixiZ module for maximum heatsinking.

Still yet, for DIY kits, you cannot go wrong with a Pocket Mini...

I am happy to announce that Igor has also offered to build lasers using my Key Chain CR2 kit :cool: for those of you who would like one of his 'select and tested' diodes and an option for Igor's own custom driver that is probably the best blu-ray driver available. The only driver that is comparable with Dr. Lava's FlexDrive. (IMO)

I'd love to use your kits to make lasers on-request basis!

I could offer my "cherry-picked" - efficieny/wavelength sorted PHR and GGW diodes (selectable by the buyer), depending on what the buyer wants in one of your kits, and with the FlexDrive DISCOUNT OPTION, i could make them at a decent price...


I could of course also use my driver for the little extra in current stability or for 8x diodes, but i know how to make the FlexDrive almost as stable with the addition of just three tiny SMD capacitors, two on the input and one on the diode for extra protection from the driver (in abnormal operation situations - very rare, depend on the battery, but still better safe than sorry)...

I know your kits are perfectly designed, and fit together well!

You always made awesome tutorials, that's why i recommend your work in the very first post for DIY builders!


For those who are unsure of their soldering skills, i can make the laser easily, after developing and making custom electronics for over 10 years, because a laser is basically just a very simple electronic device.

And unlike with my real work, i don't even have to make the enclosures for a laser, just design the heatsinks or use one of your awesome kits! :yh:

Nope, you have to buy the driver from DrLava.... :yh:

I hope he still offers them pre-set? Otherwise you need also need a dummy load and please be careful with the pot! It's a little sensitive! (as in it could fall appart if you apply too much pressure with the incorrect screwdriver....

I know this build is mainly used for a lavadrive, but will it fit/be compatible with a rkcstr driver? I'm guessing not because of the battery configuration. Am I right Jay?

That is correct...

With a single battery build, you need a boost circuit. Such as a FlexDrive! :)
