Thank you jayrob for your reply, I forgot to mention that I already checked the voltage with my multimeter and it showed nothing. I am 100% sure It's a matter of that metal ring around the spring. I just can't find anything small and thin enough to screw it further in..

In your picture, it looks like that rubber ring that isolates the spring from the retaining ring is off center. That could be the culprit.

An ice pick would be a good tool...

Hey I tried to screw that metal ring in but it won't move. Fortunately I don't know how, maybe because I touch with some might the spring or w/e the laser works again :D
I hope it stays like that :O

Interesting....maybe it did move just enough to give you that connection back again. Hmmm. That kind of leads me to believe that it might happen again to you. If it ever does, you should unsrew it and take out the switch to make shure that it is working properly and then put it back in again if it is. Well, I am happy to hear that it's working again. :)

I think the same, that it might happen again. How am I supposed to unscrew it? its moving.

Turn the ring counter clockwise. Once you have the ring out, the switch will fall out easily. There is also a plastic ring/spacer that will fall out as well. If I remeber correctly, you will see that the switch is mounted on a little pcb circuit board.

Then you can test out the switch with a multi-meter to make sure that it is working properly.

What completes the circuit is when the metal ring makes contact with the outside ring of the pcb board. When it makes contact, the current then flows through the metal ring to the host.

To put the switch back in, you have to put the spacer in first, then the switch and then the metal ring. You can also just glue the spacer to the switch if you think that it would help you put it back together.

Sure thing, you can even send it to me if you need to. But it is a tinker toy... and I am sure it will be fine if you can get it a little tighter. (turn the retaining ring clockwise)

Hey guys, I got mine together easy enough, just checked the diagrams and got out the soldering iron. I didn't have any small wire so I took the chance to tell my girlfriend "See this is why that box of old electronic stuff was valuable!". But luckily I just tore apart an old HD-A3 HD-DVD player and found some tiny wires inside. Finally I got some use out of it...

I got it all put together and put the battery in... nothing. My switch is acting up as well and seems to work intermittently at best. Will report back.

Make really sure all your connections are correct. Some pictures might help :D
 
I will be rare for the switch to have problems...

Unless suddenly this host is not the same.

Use the voltage check method I mentioned a couple of posts above to make sure if it is your switch or not.

Ok I got mine working perfectly! I just took the switch out and then put it back in and I guess screwed it in tighter or something I'm not sure. But it works great! It's very thoughtful to include a color printout of the instructions even though people can still view the pictures in this thread.

I have a 120mA PHR-803t diode and wow I love it! I can't imagine more power with a lens or a 6x diode that would be way cool. I've run it for 3-4 mins at a time and it barely even gets warm. Starts burning black things right away when it's focused.

The only thing I don't like is that the threads in my host are really poor and I had a hard time screwing the pill in. If DX decided to make a higher quality version maybe an HA-III I would be all over it.

Anyway, thanks a lot Jay I now feel a lot more knowledgeable about lasers and building my own.

You mean you can feel the host get warm after only 10 seconds??

I'm not sure what is wrong, but you are correct in that something is definitely wrong!

I can't imagine the diode putting off that much heat, so I would take a guess and say that the driver is getting hot inside the pill...

I don't want to jump to any conclusions though. Explain what you mean when you say it gets warm after only 10 seconds.
