Very thoughtful of you to mention your opinion in this thread... NOT!

Part of this hobby includes building custom lasers. Quality builds can be built with the use of such a heatsink.

A build like that, will last a lifetime. Only the diode may need to be replaced.

I bought one of those cheap little green pointers too! Just because they were so cheap, and I wanted to see if it was really 50mW's. Although you can't go wrong for the price, it's not something of high quality that I would expect to last a long time...

Obviously there are people who would disagree with you. We build substantially higher quality lasers here than those cheap pointers. I think I've bought more than 30 of Jayrob's heat sinks. Using one of Jayrob's heat sinks, I can build a 300mW red or a 200mW violet laser. What can you do with your 50mW pointer?

You should probably read a bit more before disparaging something you do not understand.

4171 Update:
There is a new version of the sku 4171 host that some people are getting...

Note: This (new style) 4171 host has a resistor buried in silicone. (inside the pill)

I have the adjusted measurements, and am making heatsinks for this new 4171 host in both heatsink designs. Versions 1 and 2!

You can see from the pictures the differences on the outside of the host. I just need to know which 4171 host you have, the old or the new...
