FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last...

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

i would love to make a 150mw one. what will the duty cycle be like? IgorT's Blu ray and red boast an almost unlimited duty cycle. does this kit match up at the price? Traveller mentioned something about fins etc.. im assuming these are the large aligned disk shapes at the front of some commercial high power handheld greens... they arent necessary here, right?

Also, do they come with the new o-ring that gets sent back to people when they have their original groove bored out?

EDIT: seems i missed the bit about the o-ring, sorry. Another q though, these barrels seem long for a single cr123 battery... do i need an extra dummy battery?

The reason i ask all these questions is i dont have loads of money, i like to know exactly what i am buying. This seems the best 150mw green i can get for my money, so far.

Im very interested in buying one of these grooves... shipping to middlesbrough england uk is ok i assume?

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Kenom is all out of the Groove barrels now...

I only have one custom Groove left. But I already posted it for sale with a FlexDrive. See here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1234898040#3

The O-like modules will need a duty cycle just like most green pointers. They recommend 60 sec. on / 60 sec. off for their higher quality IR filtered modules. So it would be a good rule of thumb for the cheaper modules as well...

(shipping and handling - $6 dollars. This covers my packaging and PayPal fees as well)

Shipping out of the U.S. will be the same price. But there will be no signature confirmation. (Buyer assumes responsibility at that price) Should not be a problem though.

That custom Groove barrel/FlexDrive combo will not last long. It will be first come, first serve...

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

I was gonna buy this custom groove for a green build, but found something more suitable. This is the LAST groove being sold that i know of. I think i'm gonna go with the other host you sell jayrob. Good work man, keeping the options open. shame to hear that all the grooves are now gone though. I hope to make custom parts like this one day...

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Yes, the other 'DIY Green Kit' is a nice host for good heatsinking to the module as well! :)

Hubba-hubba  :D

Plz let me us know if the tracking option works...  :-/

I shipped your package (First Class International), I asked about the Flat rate boxes, but they said that the web site is wrong about the International tracking with the flat rate boxes. (they did not have any of the small boxes either) He punched in the information and it gave the option to add Registered for an additional $10 bucks, but said that the Registered is not tracking. It is a service that means the package must be signed for when ever it changes hands.

They said that they can only keep track of the registered packages until it goes out of the U.S. But the customer cannot track the package.

Not sure why it says tracking on the web site...

OMG, it just dawned on me that the modules in question are the same size as the one on my Leadlight pointer.... :o
Now I'm confused... the Krytons look that much thicker: is that all heat-sinking goodness, then? :P

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

The heatsinks that I make for this barrel mod, are about 18mm in diameter. Then, you install it with a little dielectric tune up grease where it contacts the inside of the Kryton barrel. (important for good contact from the positive end of the battery)

So the heatsink does touch the barrel, which will add to the heatsinking properties of the build. But still, I would personally use a 60 second on / 60 second off duty cycle for these modules...

You can use either a 3.0 volt Lithium primary (CR123), or a 3.6 volt rechargeable battery. (RCR123) The 3.6 volt battery gives max power, but the 3.0 volt battery is recommended for a longer module life.
Jay, which battery do you use with your own "O-Like" module(s)?

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

I use the UltraFire 3.6 volt rechargeable batteries. I keep the duty to 1 minute on.

As a side note, once I tried a 100mW module with an 18650 and it went almost immediately to TEM01 (double dot) mode. For some reason, the larger 3.6 (4.2) volt battery gave it more current than the RCR123. It worked fine with the RCR123.

I'm sure that there are differences between each individual module as well...

Thanks for the info, Jay. I think I'll take a walk on the wild side & try the 3.6s :D

I may just wait 'till the LPM I ordered arrives as I will be getting the 150mW module and at $109, I don't want to take it too high... :-/

Thx for the tip / btw, the honor's all mine  :)

I feel a bit uncomfortable questioning Dr. FlexDrive himself, but any reason the "greys" (880mAh) are recommended over the "blues" (1000mAh)...? They are both "protected" versions so other than capacity, I can't tell the difference...  :-/

Apologies for my ignorance & for turning Jay's thread into a battery Q&A session...  :-[

EDIT: Oh, ah... right; wrong Dr.  :-[ :-[ (but still, thx for your input all the same  :P)

EDIT#2: What the hell, I ordered both. Although both are "in stock", I won't get either one before spring anyways... ::)

Jay,

sorry for the trillion + 1 questions, but are these the Ultrafires you're referring to?

Thx

I've always used the grey 880mAh ones, but I believe that the blue must be even better! If they have the extra capacity claimed, then they are the ones to get!

but I believe that the GREY must be even better!

look at the reviews on the blue one  :-X

1-"mah tested at 780 for me!"
2-"The strange thing is, that in the specifications is mentioned that these batteries are 1000 mAh but I got 880 mAh. Not a big deal but change the header"
3-"Received 880mah cell in blue shrink Only has about 550mah capacity "
4-"Capacity is 665mah "

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Right! Which is why I said 'if they are the capacity that is claimed'...

Who really knows if the grey ones have the capacity claimed either?
