FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last...

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Thanks Dave, I hope that I won't have to drill or gouge. I appreciate your help. I'm excited about doing this and I think that the 3405 looks cool and appears to have some heft to it (which I like). Bill

Another thing worth mentioning about your 3405 build, is that I usually only use the business end of the AixiZ module for the heatsink. This is all that is needed...

But since you have your driver mounted inside the AixiZ module, you will need the entire module in tact. This means that because of the length, you may have to drill or grind out the top of the pill. The threaded aluminum piece in the host where the LED emitter is mounted.

Then there would be lots of room...
Jay

Thanks Jay, I sent you a payment. Bill

If you opted for the version 2 heat sink, you may have to. However, it really isn't that much of a challenge. There is already a "hole" in the part. When I have to do this, I just hold the "pill" in a vice (protected with a leather glove) and use a rat tail file to open up the ring. it is very soft aluminum.

Peace,
dave

Dave, I did go for the version 2 heat sink. Am I increasing the diameter of the hole so the module goes in further?

For those of you following the "green Kryton" part of the thread (the original content), this pertains to the DX #3405 MXDL modification that Jayrob make a heat sink for.  The below picture and instructions have nothing to do with the green Kryton

When you actually get the host, this will be even easier to "see."

In the picture you will see the "pill" referred to.  It screws into the top of the battery tube.  The "bell" of the reflector head screws on top of the tube so that this aluminum piece is under the original LED and reflector.  You will replace the LED and reflector with the heat sink and the module.  In the picture below the flexdrive (green) is on top of the "pill" in the place that the original LED occupied.  In the picture, where you see the disc, is inside the barrel on top of the battery.  You can see the depth of the "pill."  You will remove the LED and the disc.  You will then see the surface that was supporting the LED (and in the picture the flexdrive).  You will be filing/grinding/drilling that surface away leaving the "pill" to look like a short "tube."  The disc will go back into the bottom of the pill (with some of the electronics defeated).  This modification will now allow the module to stick down into the pill enough to allow for the full length of the module.

As I said, it will be even easier to see when you actually have the host in your hand.  Also, when you get to this point, we will help again.

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Thanks Dave!

Just to chime in on those pictures...

They show a FlexDrive set up with a 4171 host, which takes 2 X 3.0 volt batteries for this driver set up. Since the FlexDrive is rated for a max supply of 5.5 volts, the silicon diode is used (picture on the right) before the driver to drop voltage.

Now if your using one of Dave's modules with a rkcstr driver already installed, ignore the FlexDrive part. (obviously)

As far a the 'pill' goes, that is the same with the 3405 host... as Dave has explained. Except the 3405 pill is even bigger! Bigger means easier to mod... :) You will just need to get positive and negative leads from the battery contact board to go to your driver.

When you take the emitter off, just notice how the ground is done. It is usually a wire that is 'pinched' between the round contact board and the edge of the pill...

Thanks Guys, Sorry to steer the original post way off topic. Appreciate the help. Bill

Oh man Jayrob. Am I going to be forced to buy this from you as well? Dammit. This hobby creates a dilda to focus itself on my black wallet.

I'll have to pull some funds together I suppose.

;D...  :)

Well, what can I say? Except that the Kryton is a great host that deserves an easy green mod as well as a blu-ray and red too!

The only thing is, the Kryton's will not last long... If you want one you better at least get a barrel while Ken still has some.

I can always do the green mod later. As mentioned earlier in the thread, you can send me the center section of the Kryton barrel (1st run Kryton, or Groove), and I will...

* Drill it out to fit the green module.
* Make a heatsink with a set screw.
* And include the correct size o-ring.

... For $29 dollars plus $5 dollars return shipping! :) (All I need is the center section, not the head or the tail switch)

If you haven't gotten the chance to play with a Kryton yet  I highly recommend it.  They are my personal lasers now.

230mW violet and 275mW red

And soon a 140mW green to complete the set. ;)

Peace,

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Total eye candy Dave! 8-)

What current are running your 6X build at. (230mW's, must be a 6X... pushing over 240mA's... normally) That thing will be close to 300mW's when you get one of Igor's 405nm glass lenses fit for AixiZ in there!

I have a really high efficiency 6X that gives 215mW through an AixiZ acrylic lens at only 183mA's! :) Totally abnormal freak diode. (long wavelength too!) I put that one in one of my Key Chain builds...

The violet is running with a "first generation" experimental lens. The beam and spot are not very pretty, but it pumps out the photons! The driver is only set at 200mA.

I am very excited about the more recent "versions" of the IgorT lenses coming.

Peace,
dave

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Aha! That's how your getting so much power out of there...

Igor gave me one of his experimental lenses too! Like you said, the beam and dot is not too great. But I know that he has this issue corrected now, and he is going to be doing his GB very soon! :D

The 'Scientist' has re-invented the wheel!

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

Hey when you order your Kryton Groove barrel from Kenom, pay the extra $5 bucks for him to polish it! :)

I just got my polished one today...

It was so sweet looking that I put my best module in it...

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

:D awww, I'm honored.  Honored as well that other than tube lasers, Daguin has decided to keep the Krytons as the personal lasers.

I do have to admit that those barrels look SEXY when polished!!!

Re: FS: Kryton Groovy Green Kit! While they last..

I'll tell you what Ken, I can't imagine you having those extra barrels for very long... Please let me know before they are all gone. I may want a couple more for my personal collection! :)
