exar, GoldenDragon ... your orders shipped today.

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

hey jib, i want to know if we HAVE to solder the case pin on the diode to the v- on the driver? it says on most LD's that you dont need to connect case pin onto anything.

No you don't ... As long as you have another point to connect the ground from the host. The case pin happens to be the most convenient place to get host ground is you don't have a pill with a brass grounding ring you can solder to.

hey man, the easiest way that many of us do is just to bridge the case pin with the negative and not connect the V- to anything. Jib77 stated that the negative connections are continuous like a flexdrive, so by bridging the two pins, you save yourself one piece of wire and less mess.

Its either that or you gotta have a host that has a nice convenient way to solder a negative connection. But being a driver that has a continuous negative path, I dont see why everyone doesnt just bridge the two pins and leave V- not connected, saves solder, saves wire, saves space.

just my 0.02;)

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

Ok I was able to scope one of my driver @ work with a really nice o-scope. As you can see there is no star-up spikes. I too was showing a "spike" of 1.8A on my DMM, but i think this is more of a DMM artifact than anything real.

Does a really nice "soft" start and just nails 1.6A:

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

i have a bad feeling about my laser diode being broken. when i was soldering the wires, it gets realy hot. what temps do these fail at? any ideas. and i cant really test it because i havent got my driver yet. :\

If you had the iron on there for more than a second, its probably damaged. Did you have the diode mounted in anything (like an alligator clip) to hold it? To do it properly you have to put flux on the wire and the pin and then just barely tap them together the iron tip that has a small blob of solder.

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

hmm then its definatley damamged :(. my iron is only 30w but the solder wont start melting unless i hold it for like 2 seconds. :\ and i didnt use flux. it gets hot, but not hot enough that it starts burning my hand. im pretty sure that the diode will get hotter than this when its firing laser beams, dont you think?

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

ah well sounds like i need to buy a new diode :\

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

I would confirm its dead before investing in another.

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

well, you shoulda done the soldering while the diode was already pressed into the aixiz module + heatsink, or at least just the aixiz... thats enough heatsinking for 1-2 seconds of soldering.

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

well it was pressed in the aixiz, but i took it out of the heatsink. well il just wait and see what happens.

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

Hey Jib PP sent can u include some heatsinking copper things please :D

thanks

Will, do ... but understand its not copper, its orange painted Aluminum. :)

Re: FS: LM1117 Linear Driver - 1.3A Fixed

The tiny heatsinks from dx?

I just got some in the mail today... Do you stick your drivers to the sticky flat part jib? or the finned side? Also with the 1.8A drivers, you say to heatsink the resistor's? Or the resistor side?
