FS: 18650 Cree Aurora Copper Heat sinks

I understand that there is a process to making something :) What I am saying is that you are machining these, and replicating over and over, Making something the first time is tricky, after you got it down, it's cake, that's what I am saying :)

Ha, it was horrible! I'm definitely not a "fan" of copper. It's an ugly beast. It must have taken me a couple of hours just for the aixiz holes. The copper wanted to grab onto the bit instead of getting shaved off by it.
 
Shut up or I'll take you both out. I get copper cheaper and I run parts 100 times faster than either of you can.

Pontiacg5, that custom side button host that I got from you is one of my personal favorites! :)

I really like the stainless steel side button, and the 18500 fits it perfectly...

I also like the way your focus adapter design 'slides' onto the head with a long skirt and a very close fit. This gives it nice stability. It's a good design. You should make more!

Mounting the driver, and then installing the side switch was a little tricky, but worth the effort...

Will you, please? You can't "take me out" because there is nothing to "take out"
I have a full time job, which is very secure as long as people continue to die, or try at least. This is just a hobby. In fact, i'll probably be scarce come January. I'll be starting my clinical rotations and after work, school, and clinicals I'm not going to have any time free for tinkering in the basement.

If you can offer any thing on this forum for cheaper then I plead with you to do so. I'll probably even buy some of it :D
I've always prided myself on offering stuff for a fraction of the "going rate" So if you can help bring that curve down a bit more, it would help the community a great deal.

Seeing as you can make stuff for pennies on your CNC equipment, we'll get to see if greed will show it's ugly face.
After all, you get the supplies cheaper, and can run the tools 100 times faster than us. So lets hope your website's pricing reflects it.

Greed won't show it's face because I don't have the patience to sell things, I only like designing and seeing my designs come to life. The point of my post was to try to calm the arguing, the fact being that there will always be someone who can undersell you. The forum is only hurt by conflicts like this, and the way things are going lately it can't handle much more.

Moh - I know how much work goes into every one of those heatsinks you made, especially on a minilathe. I respect the fact that you are selling them so cheap, I know you can't be making much if anything selling at those prices. If you are still wanting to help the community with cheap parts than more power to you, I know I don't have that patience.
If your ever looking for some more scrap copper bar hit me up, I've got a three foot long piece in my garage now that would make some killer copper aixiz modules.

Jay - Thanks for the comment, I'm glad a few of those hosts I made got into circulation.

Toaster - My site is pretty much dead, I've got a few tings in stock still but I probably won't be making anything else for lasers for a while. I might make a few of those things on there if I could find someone who would buy the things wholesale from me. I don't have the patience or time to run an online store.

Moh is offering very good "goods" at an exeptional price.


What Jay does is offer a service along with his kits, you dont just buy the kit then your on your own, he'll offer his expertise and experience to help you get your build completed, if that costs more, I (and everyone else) will pay it gladly. I've only ever had top notch stuff from Jay, and Moh's heatsink's look just as good. I say thier's space for everyone.

I do make money off these. I certainly wouldn't spends entire days on the lathe if i weren't getting some sort of return on it. It's not a lot, and just about all of it goes back into supplies and tools (and energy drinks)
the blue hotlights are probably the least profitable. selling 10 or 20 at a time for $5ea. the hosts are around $0.75ea, whatever the aluminum costs and shipping...leaves just a dollar or two profit in the end, but it gives the shops a very affordable kit to offer on their websites.

What size bar copper is it?
I don't have the tap to make aixiz modules. I've got the m9x0.5 thread tap, but i don't have a bottoming tap to get the threads deep enough...i'm just gonna have to find some random stuff to order to meet the min. $20 purchase at victor net so i can get the bottoming tap.

I figure whether or not i'm being a "pain" to the other sellers, they can also find relief in the fact i won't be selling much after December. I simply won't have any days off where i can work on the lathe. Unfortunately, education and career must take first priority. As fun as it is to play with lasers, it doesn't compare to rush of EMS (in the rare case something good happens)

I've also looked into a different 18650 host that I don't think anyone is selling (but who knows)

You can simply grind the bottom off of a plug tap to make it a bottoming tap, assuming you have two. Then you just use the plug tap as far as you can then use the ground down tap to get the rest of the threads. Try to keep the tap as square as possible when you grind it though.

The Victor M9x0.5 is not a true bottoming tap, it will still leave about 200 thou of unthreaded space. A very small ID carbide grooving or boring bar would let you cut a thread relief. That gets hard with copper though, small tooling and copper's tendency to "dig" on a small lathe would lead to lots of broken expensive carbide boring bars.

I think the bar is 5/8". I'll have to head into the garage to check it for sure. I know it's a good bit larger than an aixiz module though.

I know what you mean about education and a career taking first priority. I mess with lathes every day but I've only turned one or two things on my minilathe so far...

I've got a whole bunch of catalogs literally phone book sized filled with machining tooling. If your looking for something that you think exists but you can't find it let me know and I'll see what I can find. Victor is pretty limited in their tooling department, at least I think so.
 
I thought aixiz lenses were 8mmX0.5mm...
What I do is spin the aixiz modules down a bit. I think the chrome bottlenecks the heat transfer so milling down to bare brass kills that problem.
Easy enough to make a pressfit heatsink/module combo
I don't even feel like buying a metric drill index so I just use standard sizes but I am a bit of a tightwad so... :whistle:
I saw bottoming taps on amazon for ~$4 apiece but I have never dealt with them and don't really need the tap.
If you have a digital readout, these things are SO easy to make but a standard lathe with manual dials.... You can only get so much production before you are limited by your equipment.
I have only had a lathe for a few weeks and I already need something bigger. :crackup:
