FLIR just got affordable

Just got my E4. Unfortunately, it appears to have the updated software so I can't do the hack to increase the resolution. :( Either way, even with the low resolution but combined with the MSX, it is still quite useful.

Why am I just hearing of this hack now? :p

I would've bought one in a heartbeat if I had heard about it back then.

Shame that they firmware cripple their units.

OOOOOHHHH! Turned out I had a 1.22.0 firmware in mine. Downloaded stuff from eevb and tinkered with it for a few hours then tried this one until I successfully modified my E4 for 320X240 resolution + additional menus. I'm really happy now.

I stumbled across your post, and I thought of another site I use to build electronics.
There is a way to make larger sudo FLIR images if you are interested. The Store is called Adafruit.com, a Raspberry PI site. The have tutorials on how to build FLIR cheaply (and a 1000 other things), it not what you expect, but it may give you a FLIR fix till your budgets like mine improve from Laser expenses. Google it and then search for FLIR in thier 'Learning' section. I am currently working on a semi autonomous R2 -D2 for my boy. I would post a link but I feel like that would be advertising. BTW anyone know how to get ahold of Mrcrouse; I PMed him about a host. Either my rep is to low or he's super busy at school.

What distributor did you get yours through? Looks like most are selling with firmware 2.3x now.

I asked my sister from the US to order from the FLIR amazon store. I didn't think I would get an early firmware. Must be an old stock.

too long; didn't watch: $200. 206x156. has point measurement features. Image noise is a bit higher than flir one, and contrast is not has high. -40 to 330C range (way higher than flir one, and even a bit higher than e-series)
