Hey all!

I just finished my first successful blu-ray build in an Aurora C6 host, DinoDirect buck LED driver (customized to put out 90-120mA of current, depending on voltage), self-made copper heatsink, and lots of fiddling!

Anyway, it's nice :D I can see the beam in a dark room and it's... grey! It's very bizarre, but neat.

It burns like a mofo, even on white things! I <3 it! It even lights up my little glow in the dark thing like it's sunny out.

Anyway, just felt like posting my success. If my phone wasn't dead I would take some quick pictures and put 'em up. Tomorrow I will get some beam-shots once I smoke up the kitchen.
 





Oh, just a question: when I take off the lens, I still see a couple of faint spots. I assume that those are particles of dust on the window of the diode... should I attempt to clean them off? Will it damage the diode eventually? Should I just leave it?
 
Congrats on the build! By the current you listed, I'm assuming it is a PHR diode. As far as cleaning the diode, try a microfiber cloth. I haven't tried it yet, but that's what most recommend. :beer:

Yeah, it's a PHR. I wanted to safely run it below anything dangerous just in case this LED driver failed me =P

Anyway, this is my fifth attempt at a PHR, and I have killed all the others (or they were defective), so I am glad this one finally got into a build.

My red (now in a hotlight build) was like my 8th LOC =p

I have a tendency to destroy diodes :(
 
Wow :eek: Well, congrats on the successful build then. Just remember, failed attempts are always worth something: experience. Good luck on future endeavors. :)
 
Yeah :\ Shaky hands is not beneficial to working with small electronics... same is true about not yet actually having anti-ESD stuff. I just touch my grounded PSU every minute or so, haha.
 
LOL i raped my first phr diode.. kept touching it with the soldering iron (crappy radioshack one ) like 5-6 times after eachother..
didnt clean flux so its all sticky .. and its not in a housing and doesnt have a heatsinks :D :P and it still worked.. perfectly..
 
Haha. My soldering iron is a crappy radioshack one too (the $8 one, haha). However, my soldering skills are actually pretty damn good. It's just the whole, accidentally break pins off, accidentally knock something and shove too much current in it, etc. that kills my diodes.
 
My next hopeful build will be a 445 1.3W or so... and hopefully I will have that built before June 28th (if I ever get enough money -.-). Anyone have any recommended hosts for such a build, one with a pill and one with a heatsink capable of keeping it cool for a minute or two?
 
I hope u dont wreck that too :p best wishes on your 445nm build!, well you can use a hotlight if youve got one or for an awesome nice looking build you can use a solarforce l2 kit from Jayrob :D
 
Nope =p For my next build (the 445), I think I am going to stick it in a new host (not custom made, but more original).
