*The list has been lowered to 5 units. I will be making 10 though, but hopefully this will shorten the waiting period.

Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce the first run of BAMF lasers.

This feeler thread is going to gauge interest for the first ten units.

Features:
Host: ThruNite TN30
Diode: 9mm 445nm
Lens: G9 lens
Heatsink: >650g of solid copper, polished
Focus Ring: Copper, polished
Duty Cycle: 15 min on, 5 min off at 2.40A.
Modes: Variable Power Level 1-6, standby, strobe via selector ring
Current: 2.20A or 2.40A upon request
Battery: 3x 18650 in battery adapter
Low Voltage Indicator: Yes, via pulsing the laser

Photo time!

The unit will come in a nice presentation case.
I think the newer cases have a black leather texture.

ThruNite is a prominant flashlights company. Many of us know about the TN series, including the TN31/32 throwers and the multi-emitter TN30.

Here's a review of the TN30 at CPF: TN30 Reivew

The current MSRP of the TN30 is $179.

Fins for heat dissipation. The bottom of the heatsink directly contacts the base where the LED PCB used to sit, creating an effective thermal pathway from the LD to the heatsink to the body, and out via the fins.

Laser engraved ThruNite logo and solid knurling. The individual serial number is on the other side of the battery tube.

Bidirectional battery holder. Contains 3x 18650 in series and it can be inserted both ways.

Safety:
High powered lasers are not toys. They should be treated with respect.
As Spiderman said, "With great power comes great responsibility."
Goggles must be worn indoors and please check the sky for any planes, choppers, or UFO's before pointing.
My recommended goggles are the Uvex Orange S1933X reviewed here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/cheap-safety-glasses-tested-71621.html

Pricing:
For the first 10 units the price is $449, discounted from the regular price of $499.

Worldwide shipping with tracking is $25 without insurance.

If you need insurance or EMS, please contact me for a quote.

Only after we get 10 buyers will I take payments via PayPal. Once I get 10 orders, I'll order the TN30 and machine the heatsinks. After the lasers are finished, I will test them on an LPM. When they are ready to ship, I'll accept payments.

Note: I will only accept gift payments from those with under 100 posts, 10 rep, or 2 months of membership in order to prevent scams. I have sold flashlights, flashlight parts, and lasers both online and offline, and thankfully haven't had any scammers. Here is my previous sale: Sold out: $20 HD2010 & $15 Convoy C8 copper pills

When ordering, please state whether you want the diode to be driven at 2.20A or 2.40A.

Thanks for looking!

WoW almost 700g of copper
I wish i had the money to get one!!
And i guessing most of the other LPF members wish they had the money to get this beast..
Good luck with your sale ryan!!

P,S, If you would sent me one, i would be more then happy to do a Review for all LPF members to see:D

maybe you can look into getting just the host for less, seems a shame to waste all that material and money gutting a perfectly good and expensive flashlight if you could get the manufacturers to sell you just the host

Thanks mate!

I've contacted ThruNite and Supbeam countless number of times of just getting the host, but they insisted that they only sell completed lights. :yabbmad:

Looking very nice. That duty cycle is absolutely wonderful!

IMHO at this price tag it would be worth making them with the new diodes and pushing them for 6W ;)

Lame. I personally would seek out a different host that does allow for this. might have to rework the heat sink size, I do like huge, but I'm inclined to think there must be a point where adding mass does not help. 15 minutes on? how did you arrive at that number? I don't claim to be an expert or say you are wrong, I am just naturally skeptical. I don't even take my friends word for some claims, which can often result in a corrected friend. think how much dis-information can spread this way, that's why I love evidence and the scientific method, but I digress

will ~700 g of Cu really be much better than say, the 398 g of Cu in a DominatoR?

I was also wondering exacty how the module goes into the hea sink. It looks like there is room for just the module and that the heat sink will contact the back of the diode, which is good. how is is set in? are there threads in the heat sink? set screw? thermal paste, or combination of these?

edit: I see you want the host for some of it's bells and whistles. I can respect that

No problem, just add $400 to the price. :D

I'm going to assume that you've never played with a $150+ torch. :)
There are reasons why flashaholics pay hundreds of dollars for a flashlight, while others simply think they're crazy.

Thermal energy is measured by Q = m x c x T, which can be rearranged as T = Q / (m x c). Mass is inversely proportional to T, so having a larger heatsink does mean a lower temperature increase. If there were a point where adding mass doesn't help, I don't think we have reached it yet.

The 15 minute duty cycle was determined by running the laser for 20 minutes and scaling back to where I was comfortable with the temperature of the heatsink. Duty cycle is a subjective matter because there is no accepted mathematical formula for it.

The heatsink contacts the back of the diode as well as the side of the module and Arctic Cooling MX-4 is applied for thermal transfer. Thanks for your questions.

no set screw then, and the heat sink is not threaded to screw in the module?

I get why the lights are so much, but you only want them for the body, in that sense, it is a lot to pay for a host

Yup, that is correct, no set screw and no threading on the heatsink.

Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned the price of the TN30 light. The Dominator which you mentioned, sold for $450 just until the price drop. I'm not sure why you think my price is not of decent value for money.

No I'm not saying that. it is an amazing price. just lamenting that you can't get just the hosts for less, that could bring down the price a lot. I also agree these are a better pick for the newer diodes

Yeah, I wish I could only get the hosts, it's unfortunate I couldn't do so.

Thanks for your feedback! :thanks:

I guess the upside is your using almost all of the light. Only the emitters w/base, reflector, and lens are tossed. Your modding the excellent driver that it already has, which is needed for the magnetic control ring. There is a lot of hardware throughout that light. Even the cell carrier has circuitry (If it's like the TN31). I was impressed with the complexity and quality of the TN31 when I went through mine.

Sunwayman M40A or V60C would save you money on the host....iirc you can get the M40A for under $100 shipped but you'd need to use 14500 or something since its designed for AA cells

EDIT: V60C would be cool since it has a charging base so people could charge their cells in the laser. Found one for under $120 shipped so guessing if you offer them for a lot of 10 you could get it even cheaper!

Yeah it's a shame they won't sell the hosts and drivers only, it would bring down the price by a lot. The quality of the light is one of the very best though, hopefully some of you get to experience it in a laser.

Sunwayman V60C Rechargeable LED Flashlight with 728 Lumen CREE | eBay

Thanks for the suggestions. The V60C looked enticing but it's a single emitter so I don't think it will pump out enough voltage and the M40A doesn't accept 14500's. :undecided:

Thing is gnarly.

I can attest to size matters.

My dominator would get hot after a few minutes. Don't know why anyone would run it all the way to five minutes no matter what the builder said, copper or not, but..
My extended maglite has three times the heatsink and at a few minutes it's barely a little bit warm.
I think the mass would not matter on a larger scale, but not at these sizes. Bigger is better. No speculation. I've held them firsthand. They were both aluminum, and the maglite handled the heat much better than the dominator.

If your feeling it get hot in your hand, how would you figure that more mass would be useless?

At the point where you couldn't detect any warmth, is where more mass wouldn't help.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
