FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointers.

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

Don't take it apart... That's a waste. I'd buy one but I don't have funds for it. If it wasn't working then I'd understand, but taking apart a working one for no reason is in poor taste.

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

At the very minimum I wanted to scavenge the module and drop it in a MiniSabre host, but was considering cooling the module and messing with current settings on the pump. I know there are risks but you think even just scavenging the module will give me a high risk of failure on the laser? The last time I ripped apart a CNI pen I did have trouble...but granted that was about 7 years ago.

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

I just see little point. And they come from the factory at optimal settings. There's generally no adjustments to be done with the portables. Once in a long while you change a marginal boost , but at a huge cost of heat and lifespan...not to mention battery. And unless you filter it thoroughly, AC/DC power is generally bad for diodes and usually kills them quite fast. I'm not sure how good cni drivers are at reducing sudden power surges, as batteries don't produce any. Among other factors. But salvaging the module for projects is certainly a option, though fairly difficult.

I never expected to improve the power output while in a handheld setup, but I would feel pretty terrible if I blew such a unique laser. I'll be sure to practice on one of my old CNI green pens first to make sure I can do it. I do appreciate the advice, because killing one of these would be a shame!

i don't know man, i wouldn't risk it. 300$ is allot to take apart and hope it doesn't break, especially when you can sell it to someone else. but you have a lot of experience with lasers so maybe you can do it.

They're factory set at the proper current. There's no need to change it. However for taking out the module and putting it in a large heatsink isn't a bad idea. I've done that with PGL-Cs before. Although generally you can turn the pot a little farther usually. Generally the pots won't turn far enough for instant blowout. But anything higher than the factory setting will decrease its life and possibly long term power. Especially without a good heat sink. The modules are made of brass so they really are quite poor at heat dissipation. I do suppose you could turn it into a labby of sorts with a very good driver however. I've done that before just bore out of block of aluminum and put it on a TEC mounted to a metal plate. I think laserman121 has some good drivers for such a project.

If you get any cni host apart without buggering it uo (scratches are fine) and dont want them, let me know. I finally got my GLP apart and got it sent off to ehgemus for a custom heatsink and paintjob...more on that next week, hopefully :D

But yea, dont toss the hosts.

Re: FEELER: CNI 473nm and 589nm <5mw pointer GB

UPDATE (gee that sure was fast): for 10pcs of the 5mw 589nm I can get them for only 280$ each. We weren't so lucky with the 473nm though... $210 with the price discount, and with that new diode putting out 5W of >470nm there's no point.

That's alright LeHap, no thread jacking going on there.

What new diode? I need to get my hands on that thing..

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

Just an update to everybody: I will be making the payment to CNI tomorrow!

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

Still waiting on mine to even ship. Hopefully next week.

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

Cool. I still don't have a pm for payment styro. For my driver.

Re: FEELER CNI 561nm 5mW pointer, 500mW 532nm labby.

Sent payment over today! I've accumulated $90 in unexpected fees so far, but I'll probably sell off one of my pointers and try to make that back.

Cool. I still don't have a pm for payment styro. For my driver.
Sorry I forgot to let you know earlier, but they sent me this. :(
