Holey crap! did you try to chew it out?!?!

That's a bummer man, sorry it didn't go so well. Flaminpyro has diode presses for sale, you should definitely invest in one!
 
Well, I trimmed the ground since it got in the way. Then While I was grinding the solder that dripped down off, I knocked off a pin.....then...the other one. That's why there's chuncks missing, from the grinder.
 
i give you a pristine condition diode and and you try grind it.... next time use a plasma cutter.
seriously though, in the future leave all pins. and use the thinnest most flexible wire you can find.

I had to grind off the solder, my solder sucker wouldn't work, and I don't have any soldering braid. I'm getting some though....
 
You don't have to have any of those removal tools. You can also use a new razor blade. Grinding should never be an option in the future.
 
No...I dont' I don't have that kind of money, in like 3 weeks though I'll be back up to where I was before, mkaing more than twice I am now :D ($55 weekly :crackup: ) so I'll afford it then.
 
lol you use a grinder to remove excess solder? What do you use to cut butter? A gas operated concrete saw?

If you're cheap, like me, and don't want to pay for solder braid you can heat up the solder and tap the joint hard enough to knock the solder off.

Or you should practice soldering more, the excess solder should not stay on the joint, but on the tip of the iron.

I just read this and it makes me sound like a A-hole. I'm really not trying to be mean, just giving tips!

It was a thin layer, like a thin blanket of solder. And it was impossible to have it molten without the iron touching it (resolidified instantly), and even then it was a stretch, it would only heat up the solder it was touching, so that wasn't an option. I did what I could with an untinnable tip. I'm getting a new tip/kit soon though....maybe.
