FAIL THREAD!!!!

I first heard this on Sirius. At first I didn't know who was singing it. It was pretty bad IMO. Then I checked the artist after about 20 seconds. I had to change the station after seeing who was singing the song.

So uhm question... I guess it's kind of an endurance test thing... how long did it take you guys before you stopped watching that? I lasted 31 seconds :tinfoil:

Dont put down the Bieb. He's young...rich...and has a 1o mile long line of teenage girls that love him.

I'd be singing anything they wanted. LOOL

Seminole High School locked down after student brings mercury-filled thermometer to class for chemistry project | wtsp.com

A chemistry project caused a big problem at Pinellas' Seminole High School Tuesday morning.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says students were given an assignment to bring in a substance from the Periodic Table of Elements.

One student brought in mercury -- contained within a thermometer -- and the school went into lockdown.

Deputies say the thermometer was discovered as the substances were checked before going through the school.

No one was put in harm's way, but a hazmat crew was there as a precaution.

This is really sad.

This is a laser enthousiast for years, so he claims.

I dunno about you folks, but this looks pritty fail to me!

Hi Smeerworst -

The first laser that I owned was a Metrologic He-Ne 0.8 mW modulated laser in 1980, while I was a sophomore at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). When I was a Junior, I was the first person to successfully create a hologram in the entire Uiversity system. Not even the professors had been successful. They had forgotten to isolate the optics deck from vibration, and if the interference pattern shifts as little as 1/4 wavelength while the long exposure was being made, you can't create a hologram.

I also created a Lissajous pattern generator using separate audio inputs for the X and Y axes. It was used to show how frequencies interacted with each other. It was probably one of the earliest laser light shows!

For my senior thesis, I created an optical binary switch using lasers.

I've owned all sorts of lasers ever since for a lot of projects. The new Wicked Laser will be used in my latest project to attempt to create a "stop action" Hologram. With its bright beam, I can use a camera body as a shutter, and employ fast shutter speeds to avoid long-duration exposures, thereby avoiding any "vibration" shifting of the interference pattern. I've attached a photo of some of my hand-held lasers for your enjoyment. The three on the right are all burning lasers. The fifth one (the one located to the left of the Wicked Arctic S3 laser) is built from a flashlight body and OEM parts.

So all told, I guess that I've been a laser enthusiast for 32 years now, and still going. :D

Still, I don't understand why you consider the video as a "fail". After all, I was able to light the cigar with the laser, and that was the experiment. :undecided:

You were wearing goggles, but doing this at a very public location.

You came close to hitting yourself in the eyes.

You didn't check for aircraft.

The goggles you are using... cheap and possibly not enough for that laser.

If a cop came along in a bad mood, there is a fair chance you would end up as another article online... shining a laser in the sky.

It's not at all what you did, rather just how you went about it that I think rubbed a lot of people here the wrong way. (Feel free to accuse us of being safety nazis now :p)

While you have years of experience with lasers, and may very well know exactly what you are doing, but a kid watching your video would not. Rather he would see it, think, hey, that's cool! Try it, and possibly mess himself up for life.

All of that said, welcome to the forum :)

Also careful with using your camera and the arctic... the laser beam can easily damage some lens coatings, so you may want to test with a cheap setup first.

Among the things Infinitus rightly pointed out, you didn't even check for aircraft.

You may have taken VERY basic safety precautions , but your promoting irresponsible behavior.

kids will see that video, not have goggles and think "ill just close my eyes" , then open them to find the cigarette, then blind themselves.

We simply steer clear of things like that.
