Extreme Parenting – Taking Tough Love to an All New Level

I think he made the right choice for his daughter, but he should have just sold the laptop. Idk, maybe it's the cheap bastard in me, but I keep thinking "he could have sold that and bought something nice for himself!", lol.

-Spends $130 upgrading laptop.
-Shoots laptop.

True but you don't know how much he might have been pissed now do you?

Spoiled brats. I hate them.

Personally I consider myself to be extremely lazy, always have, always will be.

That said though... I got my first job at 14 and did little odd jobs before that.

My hope is that he takes away all but essential/minimal support from her for a while.

Perfect example of the me Me ME!!! mentality that's being fostered in the US.

What's worse is in many cases, unlike this guy who has my admiration, parents are a HUGE part of the problem.

Judith Warner: Why American Kids Are Brats | TIME Ideas | TIME.com

I was a camp counselor for three years in high school, and seriously considered becoming a teacher.

The article took me back to one of those summers when I remember during a parent meeting one of the mothers literally started bitching at me about how her kid is always coming home with scratches and bruises, and why I wasn't paying better attention to him. News F:Dcking FLASH... the kid was one of 15 in my group, had ZERO impulse control (not ADD mind you, but just no self control at all) and was a general nightmare. Felt like slapping her.

While this dad does deserve a medal for proving an epic point, and taking parenting to an awesome level, I wonder why he didn't tell all those things directly to her (where was she during that time, anyway?), rather to a camera.

I think he did that just to prove a point (yes in addition to the whole laptop shooting routine) which is that if she bitches publicly, she can expect a very public response. Found it somewhat strange too though.

I suspect there was private version of the same speech, with the laptop as exhibit A :eg:

HA! No worries, you're not the only "frugal" guy on here. I was thinking the same thing!

It's my assumption that she was at school and posted it at school, he found it and immediatly got pissed. He could barely speak he was so angry.

Makes sense.

And as I said, you couldn't shoot a gun if she was around, so that's good at least. I'm pretty sure she will be incredibly pissed after finding out, but will learn a point later on when she grows up and thinks back.

I'd shoot my laptop to see her original reaction.

I'd shoot your laptop to see that as well :p

The father deserves a pat on the back.

These days, 10 year olds even have their own iPhones. I mean seriously, who are they going to call, My little pony?

I have a $100 nokia, and its pretty much everything-proof :D

My friends 6yo has an iPhone and iPod Touch... about to get an iPad too :(

That kid is the most disrespectful little bitch around. And seems to have learning difficulties, she can't talk anywhere near as well as my neice, can't write at all and still has to sleep in her mothers bed or she throws a huge tantrum. She barely even goes to school and she's in Grade 1.

Loved that one
I have been there, done that, but not with a pistol. I locked down the internet instead, but just for my kids.
Now they are older and one is working and the young one are in USA at st Barbara collage studing.

Horrible isn't it.

There is a 99% chance she braggs about all her shit at school, and that doesn't help when trying to make friends.

^^ Ha ha...

That's where I come in. I've done all I can for her iProducts but I hate them so much >_< I just want to smash them but they cost so much.

Haha, 1 less pedo victim!

On one hand, a parent will do anything for their kid to make them happy...

On other, the less you have, the more you appreciate what you DO have.

Finding that incredibly fine line is a task in which not many parents succeed, unfortunately. It's easier talking about how "...they should stop buying all the expensive shit for her kid", but I believe that once you're in that position, viewpoint changes dramatically.

But still, I find it hard to believe that someone just has to buy all the iCrap. One phone OK, one music player ... still somewhat OK. But then iPad and then new phone and then another new player, damn, where's the limit?
