Ethical Selling: What is YOUR opinion?






I'm not in that position, but is sounds like a hard one. I don't know. I understand now why a lot of forum members only sell kits or parts.
 
Only sell them to people you really know. In Australia i only sell lasers over 1mW to very well know people, who i know will not misuse them. As you can see i am making a 150mW green laser for a very good mate who has a gun license. In Australia you can still get in trouble for JAD kits i think because you would be assisting that person to build a laser by giving them a host that is meant for such a thing.

@ Gun Yes I took the photo it was on a mountain top in the clouds and it was snowing and my two friends were holding the lasers for me :)
 
I think anyone should have access to high powered lasers if given proper instructions. Who are we to deny people?

Obviously any lasers I sell will include a pair of safety glasses and more than a few words of warning, but how do I make sure that at the end of the day, my making some money doing what I love doesn't involve being wholly irresponsible as a laser enthusiast?

Would love to hear any and all opinions on this subject. Also, how much would you sell them for? I don't want to sell them for the cost of parts, because then it really isn't worth the time.....

You are selling lasers that are class IIIa or less right? Then you are ok I think. If you are selling lasers of the class 3b or class IV then your lasers have met FDA approval right? Then you are ok. If you are not then you are being very careless by advertising that you don't. Just so you know there are may be persons monitoring this site http://laserpointerforums.com/f53/you-never-know-who-s-watching-forum-81333.html] that just might like to make an example of you by levying a hefty fine upon you. They might be nice and give a warning first though.
Frankly, I don't care what class laser you sell, but you should have full knowledge of the severe trouble you could cause yourself through illegal commerce by ignoring the law.

I've spent some time on the forum now since I first joined and posted to this thread. Issac actually you were the first person to welcome me and also open my eyes to how irresponsible and stupid some of my thinking was. I've said and done some stupid things and I'm sure there'll be more. But I do have a very strong understanding of the dangers involved with lasers now. So for that and for showing me something more interesting, ie; exotic wavelengths, more interesting uses of lasers, etc, Thank you. You'll just have to go with your gut or not do it at all.

I have actually reached the conclusion that I don't really trust non-hobbyists with high powered lasers. I am reserving my sales for LPF. Besides, what's the fun in having awesome lasers if all your friends have them too? A part of what I love about this hobby is how unique it is amongst those in my social circles.

Just making sure you saw my post about the legal trouble you could cause yourself. You are aware of how much you could potentially be fined? So do you think it's wise to say this out loud? If someone does something stupid with your custom made lasers in this litigious society you could end up being just as culpable as the person that did the something stupid.
