What driver are you running those off of? I just bought four MXDL pens.

Nice any heat issues?

A short duty cycle is expected with a pen host. I normally stick to a 25 on 45 off duty cycle on the blue and a 30 on and 30 off on the red. Seems to be fine.

which is brighter? :)

I think the blue just by a hair but that may be because it has more power density. All in all they are pretty close to the same. They also make a neat purple color when both on at the same time.:D

They are just so compact and powerful. I don't care that they have a short duty cycle.

These builds are some of the coolest I have ever seen! I'd love to get my hands on one sometime!

New to the site and have browsed enough to figure out that some of the ones built on here are much more cost effective then commercial units. Could anyone help me to find a quality laser that stacs up against commercial units from laser glow etc. looking for at least 1w and in the blue spectrum with focus ring, rugged simple construction and high duty cycle. Also on a side note, while I have some degree of machnical aptitude I am not educated enough to tackle my own build from the ground up yet. Does anyone make a DIY kit to get a feel for the nature of the builds? Thanks for any help in advance

Hey there! Contact jayrob and daguin to get hooked up. They have easy build kits and they are.very inexpensive.

Here is something nest. I finally got around to building a unit that I have been really wanting to get done for a few months now and thought I would post some pictures of this somewhat unique unit. I really wish I had the time to make it one of my full blown reviews but I had to settle for this.

This is a variation on the L2 Solorforce hosts. But this one has a very unique design. Check it out. I first saw it as a special body offered by Lighthound and though it would make an interesting addition to my collection.:D

It has a pretty awesome feel when holding it. It has some decent weight as well. The threading tolerances really are amazing and the rear click is really solid with great action.

Here are some pics.

This unit has a massive heatsink that slides into the body for great heat transfer into the host body like pretty much all the L2's which makes them good candidates for higher power build.

This one is using a Moh 1.8A Linear driver that is glued with thermal adhesive in the large heatsink very well. The host running of two 18350 1100mAh batteries and sports a G-2 lens.

I have let this unit run for about three to four minutes to get the LPM and beam shots and the host was barley warm plus the warmth seemed very uniformly throughout the host with is a good sign that it is moving the heat away from the sources pretty efficiently.

Anyway got a good 2.3W out of it.:eg:
