I'm a complete amature to optics, but I was wonderinf if there was anyone on this forum site or a company that sold diffraction lenses or something to break up the beam for cool effects. Thanks in advanced.
 





Do you mean diffracton gratings ? (star effects and similars ?)
 
yes diffraction gratings(where I can make star patterns or a grid of dots), I was wondering if anyone sold them for a 445nm 1W laser that I plan on building in a few weeks once i get the funding, I dont know anything about diffraction mirrors and what they do.

Anyway, for an 1W laser, i think you need glass gratings .... i doubt that plastic ones will last enough.


EDIT: by the way, isn't "just a little bit risky" (:p) to diffract around an 1W beam ? :thinking:

I havnt had the time yet, to look at it, I usually check the forum between my classes at the University

I was planning to shoot my 1.2 W 445 through a common diff grating lol
 
I used the link Ash provided I can only find gratings that diffract 'normal' light and say they arent recommended for lasers, plus I think glass would be the best (stated by HIMNL9) Again I'm new to optics so I really have no clue about diffraction gratings other than they pretty much split and diffract the beam to other places. I just figured it'd be cool to do it with a 1w laser (with the proper eyeprotection of course). Ive seen pictures of green lasers with a diffracting grading lense before I didnt know who if anyone produced these.
 
Thanks a bunch! So I don't need a special grading corresponding to the wavelength of light?

Edit: Yeah it would be risky but I am more than careful when it comes to my eyesight and anyone elses eyesight within the room so I would star wiht a weaker powered laser just to learn the dynamics of it and when I'm alone Ill pull out the higher powered one for some beam shots.
