WHATS UP , I AM NEW TO THE WHOLE LASER THING ALTHOUGH WE USE LASERS IN THE MARINES THEY ARE AT MOST 30-40 mW i just have a question i bought one of the 200mW red lasers from budget gadgets the focusable one and swapted the 200mW red diode with a LG blu ray dvd writer diode has anyone on this site done that before???

And can someone please tell me what kind of diode is in one of these LG blu ray dvd burners what are the specs are like the mW's and anything else i should know!!! thanks so much

That is a bluray (BD) reader (DVD & CD burner). We mostly work with bluray burners. They are much higher powered. I'm not sure if anyone has tested the diode out of that reader.

Is it actually lasing with the driver from the 200mW red?

Peace,
dave

All those caps make it sounds aggresive.

If you were about to change diode of the ''Dilda'' why didin't you pick the 100mW that cost 1/2 of it?, also you will need to replace the driver.

His post implies that he already did it. That's why I asked if it was actually lasing. The current for the 200mW red should have burned out the violet diode (or it will very soon).

Where can I get the higher power diode from?

I think the highest powered BR burner is still acquired by harvesting an 8X DVD BR BURNER. As I recall, the Pioneer 203 is most common. You can run that diode at about 360 mA.

Sometime months ago I did just an experiment with a single lm317, a cap and some resistors for a driver, and a PHR803T. At that time I had no rkcstr nor any other driver. But at 120mA works great, I have no LPM but It stinks my hand from 10 meters and pops balloons also. Single dilda mod but one of my favourites. I have thought to make one with a 6x or 8x diode, but dildas have a very bad heat dissipation you know, and that's for what I haven't done it with such kind of powered diodes.
