DealExtreme $9.90 K2 Luxeon 18650 flashlight

Well no worries, the more you know...

Btw the 600mW was only a guess, I don't know the efficiency of that LED, but it should be close to that number, and different colour LEDs are more efficient than other colours.

Flashlights are rated by the power that they draw from the battery. A 3W flashlight will draw 3W off the battery, the output (lumens or mW) will depend on the diode and driver. (ie - 4.2V * 0.7A = 2.94W drawn.) Be careful of the so-called 2W and 3W laser flashlights or laser illuminators sold on the net. This will not be a 2 or 3W laser, the laser output is much lower.

Thanks Bill, well this one is drawing 0.82A at 4V from 18650 battery, so it is not that bad. You can always turn it into a laser if you do not like the emitter :D As I said, plenty of room for nice heatsink!

I think I'm going to buy one of each color lol~
Warmly reccomended. Although Now that I've seen blue, I will see a white in a weeks time or so, when it arrives. Was ordered long ago.

Pointing it at my hand actually STINGS SKIN.

Placebo effect.

this is single most brightest thing I ever owned

I'm sorry, but these statistics just don't add up. The wavelength of blue LEDs is 460nm. 600mW at 460nm is 24 lumens. 24 lumens just might be the DIMMEST thing you've ever owned. A 50mW green laser is brighter. Hell, even a 7W incandescent bulb puts out more light.

Well not quite. I really actually makes warm feeling on skin. Also read below.

Dude, it does add up.
First and foremost, it is forbidden to post false and/or misleading info on forums (says in da rulebook)

Compared to other 2$ flashlights of every kind, this IS the brightest one.
White or green of same type from DX might be brighter yes, but this one is only one I have, and I'm fascinated by it.
And wavelenght is rated at 460-475nm if I am not mistakin. So it can be pretty bright.

I've been looking at these for a long time. I've been wanting a red one for meh Armeh stuffs. Seeing one reviewed here and getting positive reviews did it for me, I JUST bought one. :)

Congrats! I am definetly buying more of these for some high pwoer builds, because of bigger HS room. Otherwise, I am using Cree C6. That baby is wonderfull also! You have the empty Cree C6 DIY housing with everything but emitter and driver, and it costs 10.90$.
Warmly reccomended for LCC/LOC/PHR builds. For anything more powerfull, I'd go with this one.

Well for trying out batteries, I would buy forementioned $10.90 Cree C6, install a nice laser in it, and then try it out. It has better batt contacts IMHO.

Eudaimonium;

There are several steps in power above the 3 watt LED that you have.

I am building a light with the same body.

It has a new white LED that draws 5 amps for full output (1250 lumens).

Of course, it takes some new higher capacity #18650 batteries to deliver that much power.

Larry;

:bowdown:

1250 lumens?!!? I though 900 lm P7 was most powerfull LED emitter suitable for flashlights today.

Dude, keep me posted on that project!

Let me guess- SST-50?

Have you tried anything with the SST-90s yet? That would be awesome to see.

I am almost certain that is not 3 amps. I saw a review once that measured 2.6...
