As I watched the amazing people at JPL celebrate the successful landing of Curiosity I found myself filled with a great deal of pride and patriotism. I have not felt this way about the USA since 1981 when I stood with my grandfather out at EAFB and watched Columbia circle and land.

Looks like they landed safe! I had forgotten all about that untill I saw this last night.. I just want going to stay up for it.. Quite an amazing delivery system too I hear that next yext year Domino's may deliver pizza's this way!

Finally LANDED :D
Hope it gives us good results because 2.4bill $
are a lot of money !

Jim

PED you have too much time on your hands:D But that is some funny $hit.

I had no idea how big this rover was! It's huge compared to the other ones, and almost 5 times the weight!

Yep that sums it up.. Might want to change that to an expensive sky crane that will be disposed of..

Or did the crane land too??? These Q's and more in the next epesode of Things and the Mars rover..

Yeah with 2.4 billion they couldnt just make it color  :na:

But it's pretty cool, hopefully it finds something interesting :)

They do have fancy colour cameras on curiosity, the first few were just to figure out that the rover landed safely.

It can even do 720P video at 4fps IIRC :p

I heard that it uses a IR laser to break down rocks so it can examine the make up of them and that it uses heat from plutonium to charge its batteries!
