I was over at scopeguys house today and i brought my 445 over to lpm it. it has a v5 driver set to 810ma and i'm used 2 different 18650's.. my first lens tested was 405 aixiz and the reading was 540mw. i was disappointed.. but then i put in a 445 aixiz and the power went up to over 670 and settled at around 650. very weird.

A130 or A140? Irrelevant to the lens discussion, just wondering. Adding more data to the comparison in my head.

Hmm, maybe the AR coatings are inconsistent and the new lenses actually are a fair bit better?

why are there any coatings at all? wouldn't one want pure glass?

They are anti-reflection coatings. You don't want the diode reflecting back into itself.

PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE

Sorry but a change in AR coating won't give you an increase of 20%
(unless the 405 lens is damaged in some way)

Clean the lenses and retest.

Also, are you sure these are the aixiz glass 405/445 ?

I heard someone else experienced the same thing. The difference was caused by the nut at the bottom of the AixiZ lens which held all the elements in the lens. On one of the lenses it was loose and once tightened, there was no difference in power. Try tightening the nut.

Both coatings looked yellow, and I would think by the dot, the lenses were aligned correctly in the nut, I have seen the "dot" with mis-aligned lens elements before... -Glenn

hmm are you a professional in the field? stranger things have happend on this forum... did you ever se PHRZILLA?

lens is clean. and both coatings look similar. the 405 lens came from a very reputable source from a large batch he ordered. now having said that. maybe the one 405 lens i got could have been defective. either way my results are still the same... i am rockin a 445nm laser that is over 100mw stronger now than it was this morning.

It could possibly be that the AixiZ 405's were not all the same...

The AixiZ (half threaded) 405 that I used in my lens comparison thread is the same as the new AixiZ 445 lenses... (except for the new ones have full length threads)

So I would be interested in knowing how your 'week' AixiZ 405 power compares with an AixiZ glass lens for red. (just out of curiosity)

Because even though it has a yellow tint, it is putting out about the same power a normal AixiZ glass (red) lens will...

I thought if you looked through them, and they were yellow-orange, then they were coated for red?

Held at an angle, you can see a light tint...

The yellowish tint is for the 445 or blu-ray. And the bluish tint is for a red laser...
