(Correction - NOT DPSS) Red DPSS Module On E-bay

Re: Red DPSS Module On E-bay

Hmm yes you might be right. I just always thought 640nm was DPSS because of the better and thinner beam than 635nm.

Re: Red DPSS Module On E-bay

640 is 100% diode NOT DPSS.

the only red that is dpss is 671

Re: Red DPSS Module On E-bay

DPSS or not, it still looks like nice module, i wonder what kind of beam specs it might have.

Re: Red DPSS Module On E-bay

Afaik 671 is the only reasonably available red dpss wavelength. It might be worthwhile to get if its high power, but otherwise its so invisible you'd better opt for straight diode reds.

Re: Red DPSS Module On E-bay

well, i dunno. if i were to hazard a guess i'd agree with wannburnstuff - this unit is operating too efficiently to be some sort DPSS rig. it's likely just another mislabeled red diode laser.

i can't recall, but I believe 532nm green DPSS units are the most efficient. the efficiency, from a tuned xtal set, is usually no better than 25% of the total pump power output. i don't think a red DPSS are as good.

Re: Red DPSS Module On E-bay

Both of my DPSS red portables put out 170-200mW... but the assemblies are much larger than this, and likely due to the lower efficiency (supposed) - are pumping at 1w or more of 808.

Just with the price and size, comparatively, I don't think this is DPSS. Would be great if it was... I have to wonder about the holes drilled in the sides too. The frontmost one seems to show that there's just hollow space up there.

The e-bay seller answered the question and confirmed that it is not a DPSS module. But a red diode as many had suspected...

Thanks!
