Contact Lenses Protect the Eye from lasers??

My 100mw green just slipped out of my hand and gave me a DIRECT hit into my eye in perfect range to light a match. The orange lights in my backyard are now PURPLE... After a few seconds it went back to normal, but my eye doesnt feel normal...

Anyway, in the past ive had quite a few lasers hit me, my dilda, 20mw greenie, a few times this 100mw greenie but I havent ever had a problem until now... I was NOT wearing my contacts this time, but every other time I was struck I have.

Could it be that contact lenses reflect the laser and protect the eye?!?!?
 





I would think, that contacts lenses would provide absolutely no protection at all.

It sounds like your not being safe. With as many close calls as you claim to have had.
It sounds like this time. You got it worse because you were outside in the dark, and your eyes were dilated.

Get some laser goggles before you do some real damage, Please.
 
Get a good powered CO2 laser -- It will fuse the contact to your eye. Never need to remove the lens again !! NOT.............
Sometimes I wonder if some members here post this stuff to gain recognition. We have posted about safety so many times.

It wouldn't matter if his eyes were dilated or not a laser beam is only 1.5mm in diameter and I can guarantee your eye is at least 2mm in direct sun light and quite bigger at night the only difference is a slight more chance for the laser to hit you. the only way dilation can help or hurt you more is off of a reflection where the laser beam has already expanded. I would think the only way the contact helped you is if your eyes are messed up so that when the laser hit it was more focused on the retina instead of when you had your contact in that it spread out a little more because it corrected your eye..... but I don't know if your near or far sided.
but either way go get some glasses they have some really comfortable ones now plus they help you burn things
 
go see a doctor! he will see what really happened. if you scorched your retina, and what part, and what kind of tissue (blood vessel? blind spot? "sharp spot"?).
there isnt much you can do, but there are some vitamins and stuff which may help your retina to repair. every hour wasted is, well, an hour wasted!
not scared enough already? i will gladly dig out that old thread, where someone posted detailed info and pics of what his vision is like.. months later too, still damaged.

I was just posting a theory, all of you, I dont know why your so bit--y. I didnt say I was gonna go around and shoot myself in the eye just becuase I think its safe.

Dont give me that "weve posted a million times" shi- because this is what these forums are for, discussing lasers and their effects.
 
0% protection.

Stop worrying, your eye will probably go back to normal in some time. Next time, use goggles.
 
wrong with me? I worry about my and others eyesight. thats all.
if you dont, fine with me. its your eyes, not mine. i read enough cases of people doing permanent noticeable harm to their eyes. dont worry, its up to you, I wont bitch you any more ;-)

Because they are concerned about your safety? Because your actions (and others like you) could affect everybody that enjoys lasers (i.e. more stringent regulations and maybe even outright bans)? All it would take is one well-connected person to get the ball rolling. And all it could take is one accidental laser to the eye and you will never see again. That is why they care.
 
I changed my mind. I dont care that you dont care :-P

I had a blindspot from a 50mw ledshoppe for a few months, it went away eventually. It was pretty annoying while it lasted though. I would go see a docter if I were you, just in case.

attacking a member that knows the difference between when to use
Laser Safety Goggles or not... He was correct...

You were not posting a theory... but facts that you often shine lasers
into your eyes and DON'T use Laser Safety Goggles...

After all this time here on the Forum... have you not learned the basics
of personal Laser safety...:thinking:

As far as I'm concerned... they are your eyes.... do what you want with
them...
But with that mindset (and to post it here) I'm quite sure you are as safety
conscious about lasers with your buddies around....
