If this was real you would get a letter from the government not some phone call. In the states on site retail business  would take the FDA seriously. ATF or FBI that's something to be terrified of the FDA has no enforcement arm besides lawsuits. If you opened a retail store you could be sued but you would be warned. Online they would warn you first through a letter. Again you would get clearly marked letters first, not random calls.

This is silly does this guy think he is undercover for the FBI?  

Before you panic if want to PM me his number I can have a nice LONG chat with him. I'll make sure he gives me complete proper credentials as well as the names and numbers of his supervisors which I will contact to verify he is working for the FDA and indeed called you.

Thanks Laserman for going through the motions as I cannot tell you how many times I've said the same thing.

If you want to sell lasers you have to sell systems that meet FDA requirements. It's on their website and the cost to add safety features (key switch etc is very minimal with the proper host). You then have to complete the paperwork to notify the FDA of each type of product you intend to sell. They have their requirements but they are not out to get anyone who follows the law. It doesn't cost anything to file. Then you can be the only amateur building that can advertise FDA approved. You wont get an accession number, those are for imports but you will get an approval letter. I believe you can even sell your products before approval as long as you have submitted the paperwork. Laser manufacturers are self regulated when it comes to verifying the systems unless the FDA is given a reason to check.

Laserman, I stand corrected and appologize if I have in any way offended thee . I give sincere correction where I might have made you appear to be a lesser person. I appreciate that you are putting your experience out there . But all i am saying is ....If I want to buy a 16x or 20x or 22x diode and include to buy mounting parts from you , not to mention , perhapse buying my own Bluray burner! Which I can disassemble legally! I have rights ! I can buy cleansers in the store , or pipes from the hardware store , or even aluminum dust from sellers . But unless I have a reputation or am evil ... Parts do-not-imply crime! If they did - then you better wait for supoena

Of course they are legal in the US! You are fine as long you don't own any illegal firearms. No laws against personal ownership of lasers just sale of non-FDA certified ones.

Moh- i would not mind if you refund my order and stop shipping out lasers for a while, it will take off some heat in case they are watching your parcel activities  

I personally think this FDA dude is for real. . . if it were a cheap move made by your competitors, they would have pretended that they are the FDA, instead of being sneaky like that

No offense at all - I have dealt with some real trolls here. You can build anything you want and I mean anything except a nuke or something, you might have some problems getting parts tho. The problem as I stated in my first or so post...is when you decide to sell one. You would not believe what I have built, but when I went to sell it...I did it right, I dont care what anybody does, not at all. You are correct...parts do not imply a crime, only when assembled and entered into commerce (without approval) does it become a crime. For more information you can consult the UNABOMBER or talk to Lockheed Martin, they both build things that go boom but only one of them does it legally.

laserglows products do not contain a keyswitch. I would have to look at their class, and they claim 100% certified...but I have my doubts. I dont care what they do either. Im just telling you the laws (in a very general way)

this won't affect any purchases that have been made, they will still ship out accordingly...

and it's not going to affect anything really.....
i may change a few things around.....and stop advertising to the general public....but nothing big.

So what if it is against FDA rules? Who is going to enforce it or know about it? The FDA is not the ATF or FBI even though Daniel Hewett thinks it is.  ;D Besides that you can't get arrested or anything. They are not a law enforcement organization. Worst they can do is sue and private transactions are not going to be bothered with. Start a website selling lasers that can cause problems. Unless you are in China in which case who cares?  

Mohrenberg has an online store that probably wasn't a good idea for him. Personality I wouldn't sell lasers to anyone but established members to avoid nonsense like this.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT FROTHY, AND IT IS ONLY SEMANTICS...But you may NEVER state or advertise "FDA Approved" But however you may say "FDA Certified" Or "Complies with 1040 CFR" But I think the word "APPROVED" is a no no. Correct me if I am mistaken, But I have seen what you do and I know you would know the bottom line, and I would refer to you for the final word (as I have been out of the loop for many years)

What if you get his number directly from the FDA and call him and ask "did you call me(first name) this morning? If he says no, thank him and hang up. You could call from a remote phone location. That should be enough to protect your identity and still confirm whether or not this is real.

in case you are not aware...the FBI is intensely involved in tracking down and prosecuting individuals for illegal use of laser pointers...it is only a matter of time before they track down the "manufactures" of illegal pointers. If you have NO ASSETS...you have nothing to loose.

you need to research a bit before making a statement like that. They will be coming to a city near you soon...it is just a matter of time. If people keep shooting airplanes, investigations will accelerate. OBAMA has tons of money to spend on "terrorist investigations". You dont believe me??? WATCH and SEE!
