Ah man. Could be a faulty sticker. A PL532 takes one 18650.. Hope it workes then. Otherwise the laser is defective.

And yes like livinloud said. Just to see if it is the tailcap!

The 520 probably just zombied and then LED'D a little bit later..

Greetings,

Ok, thanks for the clarification guys.

I did not "bridge" the tailcap with anything, but I did take the tail cap from the 532 and put it on the PL405 and it worked fine. I also took the known to be working 405 tailcap and put it on the PL532 and got the same result. So it isn't the tail cap.

Then I saw your reply about the 18650 and got excited that perhaps that was the issue (the sticker does show 2x 16340s). I popped in a fresh 18650 and same thing... the laser is basically DOA. I wish that would have been the answer. It just doesn't work.

:(

Powering it with 2 batteries probably killed it... but of course that's the manufacturer's fault, they shipped with wrong instructions.

I was under the impression this sort of thing was mitigated by the driver. I'm still learning, so that may just be my ignorant assumption.

Anyway, I ordered two lasers in the PL host... a 405 and and a 532. Both hosts are stickered the exact same way... 2x 16340s. If there isn't some sort of over-voltage protection since both configurations fit in the host, it seems like that is something that wouldn't be too hard to design into the unit. Considering the cost of higher powered lasers, the addition (I would think) should be negligible.

Just to clarify, the PL532 turns on when the actuation switch is depressed... but just for a few milliseconds. It looks like a green camera flash if I had to describe how quick it is...

The way you tell it it seems like a defective driver or shifting crystals. Could be anything.

My PL was also labeled 2x 16340 whilst i allways use 1x 18650 and i partially cut the sticker because of that. Could be very possible that this driver can handle both. The IR driver has a very low operating voltage so the driver needs to buck it down regardless using one or two cells. However it could be that the driver has a harder time with two cells.

It was just an idea i thought that maybe the driver's protection vould be kicking in with two cells. Sadly that is not the case. But we will get it sorted regardless.

Greetings,,

@KapHn8d

You can send back both the PL532 and the 520. Kevin and i think customs may have destroyed the 532.

But the good news is that kevin is allready producing new laser for you!

I will have to search the adress for you and send it via PM

Just a question , can't you sue the customs for damage during their inspection?
I mean.. wouldn't that be a bit unfair for both the customer and the seller if the customs can do whatever the hell they pleases with other people's package even though it didn't violate any laws?

Well I don't know for the states. But here in holland it would be inpossible. Breaking a laser like this is really easy. For example turning the current screw on top of it, or some rough handling whereas the diode/driver breaks. Nobody can prove that customs did it that so your screwed.

They can allway blame it on the proces itself.. And because if it's legality to import you don't even want to begin a hassle about it.

hey guys got my 520nm yesterday and was quite disappointed in the amount of splash from the light. I'm just wonder what you guys think, or if yours are similar. the ring from the splash is about 6" will a bit of wings on the side as well. it's about as bad as a $5 green pen laser and I kind of expected a more clean dot. here is a picture of what I'm talking about.

Package will be here today :D hopefully they don't try to deliver it when I am not home. I am looking forward to seeing the 515nm

I've never seen that from any 520nm diode I've dealt with.

I've used all 3 lenses to our disposal (minus the 9mm lens).

right I know the difference between DPSS and this diode but would expect better. I've never really had a QC issue till this one. I think this one will be having to go back because it's just that bad!

Well how much does a laser cost doesn't necessarily reflect the beam's shape.

Thanks for that Captain Obvious.

I'll say that has to do the 520nm diode's characteristics instead of the quality...

It has NOTHING to do with the diodes characteristics , please, if you know nothing about which you speak, say nothing.

But I can't really say as I've never owned a 520nm before

Then why even make this utterly useless post in the first place then?

Jeez...
