Re: Open: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Did you run any secondary correction lens or just the collmenating lens?

No. Just used a 405-G-1 lens. I do have a cylindrical lens but I don't think it will be suitable for this diode.
The raw output (no lens) is different but with a lens on it, the profile looks about the same.

So this diode is basically a cheaper alternative for the m140:)

Yeah I guess you could say that.

Re: Open: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

@mhemling33 what did you think of the beam with the g2 compared to an m140 diode?
i'm on the fence here. a very well known diode against the new guy. i can only buy one.

To tell you the truth I think it is about the same. I try to take some comparison shots and post them in a little bit.

One thing I have noticed when you compare the outputs without lenses.... the Osram is thinner but longer then the m140.

I am glad I got one if I had more funds I would grab another.

If you look at the raw output it looks almost identical to the PL TB450 and it is safe to say it is not an m140 diode.

It's hard to take a picture of but here is my attempt showing the batwing to one side.

That batwing is usually caused from the diode not being centered on the lens? Or atleast the fact that it isn't equal on both side. When building modules I use centering mounts that I can adjust the position of the diode. You can then usually have the wing even on each side and use a spatial filter to clean them up.

Hm. Mine didn't have a batwing. Agreeing with POLISHEDBALL that it looks like there is an alignment issue.

Bump, I have a lens and can do an LPM video, though it looks as though it's no longer necessary with all
the other LPM results. There are only 3 diodes left to go before the buy is triggered. Where did everyone
go?

I actually just listed my build for sale. If I sell it I will buy another diode and save it for a future build.

I'll take one. Approximately how much will shipping be?

Sorry to back out of a diode, but I no longer need another.

The good news is the diode that tested low power. Is working fine measures the same as the other one making 2w at 1.8a. Turns out it was in a bad host and not seating. Considering the time I ran this overheated it survived well. While it was in the bad host, I overdrove and heated it till it went down in power to LED. Mounting it correctly and it ran just fine. Held for 15 minutes no problem at 2w.

Excellent, great to hear it. These are a really tough diode when it comes to heat. I'll take
you off the list then.

Shipping is $3. $5 if you want it insured. Figure another couple dollars on each diode for
the cost to ship it from the supplier. I won't know exactly until after they have been sent. I
lost my shirt on the first 5 because they had sent it FedEx express and FedEx decided to
let me know just the other day that it was over $75 and charge my credit card all at the
same time. Frankly their system sucks. Avoid it if you can. If you have already paid,
don't worry about it. So I'll put you down for one then I guess.

I've missed this thread until now, I've been hibernating for a little while

Looks like you have 1 or 2 left (?) I'd like to order at least one please :)

I don't have any on hand right now to sell, but I can put you down for the next round. The order can
hopefully go out soon if enough are interested. Exactly how many do you want?

Okay, you're on the list. Just one more diode left and the GB begins!

Any other power reports on these. Curious on if my meter might need some calibration.

Constant for me 1.8a is 2w.
