I am having a hard time trying to find 405nm safety glasses that cost less than $150. Does anyone know where I can find some cheaper ones?

Thanks

405nm is close to UV, even most sunglasses should provide sufficient protection for that. Jayrob uses blublocker sunglasses here.

If you want something with certification, check this for example.

My goggles from Dragonlasers does protect me against BLURAY also.
They block green/bluray

You posted in the wrong section for this. It should be in the SAFETY SECTION :-?

While not actually rated for laser safety, I just use some yellow-lens safety glasses. Cost $5.99 at the local "cheap" tool store (Harbor Freight Tool) and sometimes $1.99 on sale ;D

Anyway, they block the majority of the violet light. I can shine my 260mW 405nm laser through and the resulting dot is very dim (but it starts to melt the lens :o).

But, since they're not rated for blocking laser light, use them at your own risk or get real ones rated for ~405nm.

Yes - the danger from using sunglasses is not that they won't provide sufficient blocking[sup]*[/sup], but that they "can't stand the heat".

[sup]*[/sup] Unless they're really crap. But sunglasses without UV blocking are dangerous even without lasers around.

I'm using $5 Wal-Mart clear safety glasses. They work very well, but I would not trust them to a direct hit. The main thing is to look how thick the coating is. I bought different 3 pairs, but only 1 really works well.

my normal glasses are uv protected can i use them?
they are also transition which they change colour depending on light.

I can sell you a pair of Laser-Wave 405nm-specific goggles for $35. That's what I bought them for. I was in on thesk8nmidget's GB. Send me a PM if you are interested, as I might forget about this thread.
